Instances in which I have been accused of reading too much into TV:

Ghengis was watching an episode of MTV's Road Rules, while I was listening in as I noodled on the computer.

It was an old episode for you MTV viewers  (but not for us deprived Canadians watching the show on OLN) - a show from the "Latin America season". Road Rules, incidentally is one of those "reality tv shows" : five young Americans take a road trip and have their exploits filmed as they perform various challenges for cash.

In this particular episode, one of the Road Rule players has gone missing. They learn that this person has been "kidnapped" by "The Renegades" and the rest of the gang have to find him before this paramilitary-looking group gets them.

I am stunned when I hear this. "Hey", I say to Ghengis, "don't you think its a little tasteless to set up a bunch of American kids to play a game of kidnapping and commandos IN CENTRAL AMERICA where they still haven't accounted for all the bodies of the hundreds of civilians that disappeared less than 30 years ago?"
