Cats, Raptors, and Dragons
Cats
From the moment I was able to fully care for myself, I've been taking
care of cats. I've successfully raised, fed, and rescued more than a dozen
kittens and cats; all strays. This, however, doesn't take into account
all those that I couldn't help, which, thankfully, is a lot less than my
success stories.
Currently, I have more cats than I should have, and my home is beginning
to resemble a Temple of Bast
more than a person's home.
My love of cats came from my dad, who at this very moment is setting
up a non-profit organization/refuge for Big Cats (and I mean, lions, tigers,
cougars, oh my). These cats he will be taking care of will be those animals
that people thought would be "neat" to keep as pets (but then
quickly found out otherwise), those that would be endangered of being put
to sleep because there is no room in zoos and other animal refuges.
From my last name, you can probably tell what animal for which I have
an affinity. My grandfather was a falconer back in the old country. He
had a Peregrine Falcon, a Phillipine Sea Eagle, and a Red-Tail Hawk. I
wasn't allowed to "play" with the raptors; I was much too young.
But I remember them and their impressive natures, and I was hooked.
I wanted to become a falconer, but right now, the cats and everything
else take up too much of my time. Perhaps in another time period, I can
try to apprentice myself to a master falconer.
Dragons
Dragons have always had a great fascination with me. They remind me
of cats, in an odd sort of way. From the way they hold themselves, how
secretive they can be, their aloofness, and the niggling feeling that they
always know more than you. Also, my grandfather used to tell me that we
were descended from dragons in the Old Country. I don't know whether or
not that is true, but it would explain my fascination.
There are two major types of Dragons:
- Western Dragons
- Asian (or Eastern) Dragons.
