LiaR Land

Green Eggs and Hamlet - by Lia!

Portrait of the artist as Seuss. This image portrays one of my silly selves, and, by the way, I really do have a hat like that. I like to wear it when reciting the poem Green Eggs and Hamlet.

MelanchoLia! - by Lia!

An image of my sad, withdrawn self.

O Vile Temptress - by Lia!

A more sensual self-image.

Hollow at the Center - by Lia!

A plain black board - this piece is the piece against which all the other portraits in this series are defined. Despite the presence of the large dramatic personae presented in this series, the true self is a blank space. This piece reflects the emptiness at the center of the dissociated self and also expresses the concept of negative capability ie the idea that peace is found when we let go of all the false personae and egos and allow ourselves to be nothing.

Mid-Evil - by Lia!

This is the first Liar-Land image I created. It is a romanticized image of myself that I made to counter the many self-portraits I have done in which I look like a minion of Satan - my dark, disturbed "evil" side tends to appear more frequently in my self-portraits. The title Mid-Evil suggests that this romantic self exists in the midst of my darker, evil, selves. It is also a play on Medieval, as I look like someone out of the Middle Ages in this image.

Disco Goddess - by Lia!

Another silly image of myself - portraying my Disco persona.

Inferno - by Lia!

Another scarey self-portrait which portrays the dark side of my self. An image of anger and destructive emotion.
