Focal Adapter

I would have a problem focusing on a dim object like a comet while
looking through the camera, so I would focus on a bright object and
then swing back to the dim object. Problem was I couldn't see the dim
object through the camera so I never knew if I was on it or not.
Sometimes I would take the camera off the Prime Focus adapter and put
an eye-piece up to it and I could see the object, but I would have to
hold the eye-piece about 2 inches outside the prime focus adapter. This
was very awkward to find an object. So I took my Variable eye-piece
projection camera adapter apart and figured out a way for it to hold
the eye-piece at the right distance.

I unscrewed the crome part, turned it around and dropped it inside the
wide piece. Now it's just hanging in there but once you put the T-ring
on and tighten it, it holds it in place. It's still able to turn, but
no biggie. With that chrome piece off, now the eye-piece can go in that
end and be tightend down. The usual intended use for the camera adapter
has the eye-piece going in the other way and is on the inside of the
camera adapter instead of sticking out the end.

Now even with the variable adapter adjusted for its shortest setting
it was still about 2" to long. So I cut off some of the narrow barrel
on the end that fits into the wide barrel. That way the ugly cut part
is neatly tuck out of sight, plus the other side has the fitting for
the eye-piece that you dont want to mess up.

So ready to go, I put the camera on the prime focus adapter, focused on
Venus, unscrewed the prime focus adapter, put my new adapter on,
adjusted the variable part to achieve the same focus, swung the scope
over to the comet and vela, screwed the camera back on and as you can
see by the pictures of comet X5, the pictures I took the night before
I made this, the comet is in the top right corner of the photo. In the
photos I took after making this, the comet is in the center of the photo.

Basically what I've made is a manual flip mirror.
