I live in a suburb called The Gardens, Manurewa, in the south of the city of Auckland, New Zealand. New Zealand's way of life suits me .. pretty unhurried, plenty of wide open green spaces, and yet the cosmopolitan nature of Auckland or nearby Sydney, Australia, offers all the city slicker could want.
I work for King's College, a leading independent secondary school. I am their Communications Manager, which means I am responsible for most of the College's publications, marketing, media and internet. I used to be a radio announcer and journalist, and I keep up a bit of interest in radio still, by doing some sports reporting and comment on the Auckland station Newstalk ZB (89.4 FM on the dial).
My interests are sports, movies, fine wines, and, of late, the Internet. Being an information junkie, the Net can count me as an addict. I used to have to head into the city, walk up long flights of stairs to darkened library reference rooms to get to the Reading Rooms and look at four-week-old copies of U.S. newspapers, if I wanted to follow the progress of my favourite sports teams. Nowadays, I sit at my desk, get online and click on usatoday.com, cnn.com, or espn.sportszone.com ... and the world of news and sport is at my fingertips. I'm in hog heaven!
I am married to Carol, an attractive, smart and talented maths lecturer/mum, and have two children of my own (Andrea and Sam) and two step-children (Dan and Jon). In my spare time I have a game of tennis once a week, drink copious amounts of red wine (French and Aussie ones preferably), waste money gambling on sports outcomes, and love goofing around with the kids.
