Costa Rican Reserve
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WildLife On Easy Street's owners, Don and Carole Lewis, recently acquired
200 acres of prime Costa Rican Rainforest, which is being set up as a release
site for native Ocelots and Margays. The property has a main house as well as
lodging for the full time "Game Wardens" who live and patrol around
the clock. Poaching is a big problem for the Ocelots and Margays in their
native habitat and even in a completely enclosed sanctuary, the danger from
poachers is a very real one. The locals are already bringing animals there for
protection, and are eager to learn more about their native treasures. The
Lewis's are working in conjunction with the Costa Rican Government as well as
other local agencies responsible for confiscating and re-releasing illegally
captured animals. Eventually, we would like to be able to accommodate the
release of Jaguars as well, but for now, we need to take it one step at a time.
The Reserve is situated at the base of a volcano with a river running
through it (the river has several gushing springs!). Economy tours are
available through our new Bed & Breakfast located in the capital of Costa
Rica. Cost of $120.00 a day includes transport to and from the airport, Bed &
Breakfast, a car and a bilingual tour guide to take you anywhere you want to go.
(Each additional person $25.00)
