Ruth Rainie Condit's investigative nature and exploration of art forms make her work exciting and delightful to view.
Ruth was born and raised in Iowa. She moved to Washington, D.C. early in 1943 where she worked and attended Corcoran Art Museum School. The summer of '44 was spent at Annapolis Roads, Annapolis, MD. painting. That August she moved to Hollywood, CA and worked as an in between animator for Columbia Studios Screen Gems, attended art study groups at Chouinard Art School. Married and had her first daughter, Kathryn, in Fresno where she lived for a short time and took classes at Fresno State with Darwin Musselman and Jane Gale. Active in Fresno Art League for two years then moved to San Mateo while husband got his Master's degree at Stanford, 1951. Active in Peninsula Art League and Stanford Wives. She won her first major award in 1953 at the San Mateo County Fair.
Ruth studied Contemporary Painting Techniques and Theory with Alex Nepote from San Francisco State College. Then moved to Silicon Valley in '53 and became an active artist member of the new San Jose Art League. By then the arrival of two more daughters, Jo Ann and Christine required the building of a home - in Saratoga in 1955. A son, Brian was born here.
Ruth started teaching adults and children classes at Montalvo, Sacred Heart and St. Andrews schools and in private studios on 4th Street at the end of Big Basin Way. Added a studio in the home on Montpere Way. She retired from teaching in '68 and presently is exhibiting with Los Gatos Art League, San Jose Art League, and Saratoga Contemporary Artists.
