Mule Hair Styles
A Short Primer...

The Mules of today sport their manes in a variety of styles: short and upright, long and upright, roached, hogged, trimmed, banded, or lying over. A well-trimmed mane can enhance a neck and topline, while a poorly groomed one can destroy the overall presentation.

Notice in the illustration below, how the way the mane hair is trimmed changes the appearance of the head and neck. An animal with a thin neck (as this template) may not look so good with a roached or tight-braided mane, whereas the banded mane draws attention to the mane and not the neck, while the stand-up manes tend to add shape to the neck.

So it stands to reason then that Tails would also follow the same logic in regards to looks and functionality. Today, modern Mule Tails may be natural, trimmed, banged, shaved, belled, or perhaps a combination thereof. [see illustrations below]

Natural, Pulled, Banged

Shaved, Braided
