Angry Letter Tally 2000

easy ways to Save the World!

These are just a few of the things that I have found on the net which truly make a difference. And each of them only takes about thirty seconds to do :)
I have divided it into two sections, current opportunities to make a difference, and things that you can always do. The sections are both on this page, most current things first. Simply read what it is, who it benefits, and if it's not your cup of tea, move on to the next one.
I am going to update this page a lot, so come back! Things will be changing daily. Most of my online time is actually dedicated to activism. And, because of that, if you have anything you'd like to see on this page, or know of any big doings in the world of activism, or if you'd just like to talk about it (i need some moral support, more often than not), drop me an email.

Just a kid with a cause,

Current Opportunities for Activism

Q: What can I do?

A: Check out the Students for a Free Tibet website.

Q: What's the point?

A: There, you can find ways to be politically active such as writing letters to free political prisoners, signing petitions, purchasing Free Tibet propoganda, and becoming a member of Students for a Free Tibet.

Q: How do I do it?

A: Follow this link: Students for a Free Tibet.

Q: What can I do?

A: Sign a petition.

Q: What's the point?

A: Did you know that movies rated PG-13 demographically are seen by more people? More people see movies with a PG-13 rating than they do movies with an R rating, and that means more money for the movie makers. People under the age of 17 are young and impressionable, so the Motion Picture Association gives movies that they think people under the age of 17 shouldn't see without an adult. People under the age of 17 can buy tickets to PG-13 movies, regardless of their parent's, or anyone else's wishes. Coyote Ugly is rated PG-13, which means that young people are buying tickets to see the movie.
In the beginning of Coyote Ugly, a young, beautiful blonde girl moves to New York City, leaving her brunette, slightly heavier best friend with buck teeth to stay in their little home town and get married to an unattractive dork. The Motion Picture Association is telling people who see Coyote Ugly, including the young, impressionable people under the age of 17, that pretty blonde girls can follow their dreams, but the less attractive girls have to stay home and get married.
In the last scene of Coyote Ugly, the character played by Tyra Banks is behind the bar. This would imply that this character, a girl who quit being a "coyote" to go to law school, returned to the bar and began working there again. The Motion Picture Association is telling people who see Coyote Ugly, including the young, impressionable people under the age of 17, that girls are better off "shaking it" on a bar than trying to be law students.
The Motion Picture Association has seen these subtle things, things that people will not consciously register, and dismissed them with a PG-13 rating because they can get away with it.
I have something to say to the Motion Picture Association. There was not excessive violence in this movie. There was no nudity. In fact, there was nothing obvious to warrant a higher rating for this movie. There was nothing obvious to warrant a higher rating, but by giving this movie a rating of PG-13, the Motion Picture Association is telling people under 17, me, you, and everyone, that pretty women achieve their dreams when less attractive women don't and women are better off dancing at bars than trying to go to law school. More than the obvious has to be taken into account when giving a movie a rating.
If you agree, please sign this petition, a statement of outrage, which will be sent to the Motion Picture Association and other pertinent addresses.

Q: How do I do it?

A: Follow this link to lvrj.com and vote to oppose the amendment that would prohibit same-sex legal unions. You can vote once every 24 hours.

Q: What can I do?

A: Sign a petition.

Q: What's the point?

A: The Governor's office in Vermont has recently been bombarded with calls from protestors against the decision to allow gay and lesbian civil unions. This petition will be forwarded to the Governor's office backing the decision to allow gay and lesbian civil unions.

Q: How do I do it?

A: Copy between the dotted lines, paste into an email, and send to ltgov@leg.state.vt.us or follow the instructions.

As you may have heard, the Supreme Court of Vermont recently ruled that committed homosexual relationships should have the same rights and privileges afforded to married straight couples. There are more than 1,000 rights that come with marriage which are currently denied to gay couples including hospital visitation/medical decisions, rights of survivorship, filing joint tax returns, etc. This is a very important first step toward equality in America.

However, the Governor's office of Vermont has been BOMBARDED with phone calls by anti-gay individuals opposing the recent decision -- primarily fueled by the Doctor Laura radio program which gave out the phone number. I called the governor's office, where the secretary was VERY nice but said that I was one of only a HANDFUL of callers who SUPPORT this huge step towards equal rights.

Please add your name to the following list and:

1) COPY this into a new e-mail, and send it to your friends.

2) If you are the 25th person on the list, please:
a) send it to: ltgov@leg.state.vt.us
b) Then clean the list, put your name at #1 and forward it on. COPY and Paste (DO NOT FORWARD) into a new Email with your name added, then send it to whoever cares for equality.)

Dear Lieutenant Governor Douglas A. Racine,

Everyday Opportunities

Q: What can I do?

A: Read about a magazine online and possibly subscribe to it.

Q: What's the point?

A: XY magazine is the only magazine designed specifically for the young gay community, but it barely survives month to month because of an advertising strike against them. XY needs to survive so that corporate America sees that young and gay is mainstream, and that we aren't going to go away.

Q: How do I do it?

A: Follow this link to xy.com and read about them to see if you would like to subscribe.

Q: What can I do?

A: Visit sites that make a difference, and click their buttons :)

Q: What's the point?

A: The Hunger Site donates food to hungry people per how many clicks they get each day. The Rainforest Site buys land and protects it per how many clicks they get each day. This is corporately sponsored.

Q: How do I do it?

A:

Follow this link, and click on the button in the center of their page. They will save 13.5 square feet of rainforest for every click. You can click once a day.

Follow this link, and click on the button in the center of their page. They will donate 1/2 cup of staple food for every click. You can click once a day.
