My Apartment Network

Unless otherwise noted, all connections are 10baseT, and all entries are mine. Machines with a box around them are "headless" (have no keyboard or monitor).

Detailed Descriptions

(if I don't list the manufacturer for parts then they're not important)
(I'm not even going to try to diagram my room. think "mission control").

alia - My primary workstation, this is running freebad, and has a dual athlon (MP Palamino on a Tyan Tiger MP S2460 motherboard), 512M DDR RAM, viper v330 (4M), sound blaster live!, 2 10G-7200 rpm SCSI drives, 24x cdrom and 4x cdr. altair - This is a company laptop that, honestly, I never use. Beast might. He was saying that it's gotten flakey and powers off for no reason, but I haven't checked it out because I don't like laptops.
gate0 - Because this is a firewall, I'm not going to be too specific about OS stuff, but I have no problem saying it's lunix (because any idiot connected to the internet can find that out for himself). It's a PPro-150 with 24M of RAM, a 500M ide drive and 2 nics.
leto - I have a second windows98 box around for some multiplayer gaming situations (like Diablo II where I can log in with both machines, and have a character mule waiting for me in town). It's a pII-350 with 96M of RAM and a 20G 7200-rpm drive and a crappy turtle beach sound card.
liet - I've had this box since sometime during my first year of college, so I refuse to get rid of it (I had to sell my 386sx-16 w/3M of RAM and a 40M drive to get it). It's a 486dx2-66 (overdriven to 133) with 32M of RAM, sbpro, diamond stealth (1M), and a 2G drive. It runs X, though it's quite sluggish (mostly because of the demands I'm putting on the video card for color depth and resolution). If I didn't hate configuring X so much I'd pop in one of the 2M stealth64 cards I have lying around.
nfs0 - This mighty 486dx2-50 uses its 8M of RAM to nfs export a 350M filesystem I call "/usr/common" I use for storing/distributing /etc/ (and other configuration) files and certain binaries. It's a redhat 5.2 lunix machine (not as good at nfs as slowlaris, but better than *bad).
nfs1 - After losing all my mp3s to a drive failure for the second time in a year I set up an nfs server with software RAID. It's a dual PII-300 with 256M of RAM and redundant (cold swap, though) 4G SCSI system disks. The RAID is using vinum under freebad across four 40G 7200 rpm ATA-2 drives (RAID-5).
teg - Because it's my game box it gets the best hardware. This bothers me, but its spikes are much higher even though its general resource use is lower. It's an AMD Thunderbird 950 (kv200-r motherboard) with 512M of pc133 RAM, a 40G-7200 rpm-2M buffer-8.5ms seek ata-2 drive, sb X-gamer, voodoo4, 8x-4x-2x cdrw, and a regular 6x cdrom.
tuek - My openbad AMD-K6 233 has 96M of RAM and a 4G system disk and a 4M Matrox video card. It's my living room workstation.
ns0 - I set this up as an internal-only nameserver for our own devious purposes. It's a 486dx2-66 with 16M of RAM and a 1G drive, running freebad3.1.
serv0 - This freebad3.1 PPro-100 with 32M of RAM and 3G drive has a few administrative purposes, including running a home-grown webserver that returns a 1-pixel gif no matter what you request (yes, this has to do with those "devious purposes" i mentioned earlier).
wc0 - My lunix webcam server runs the latest kernel in the hopes USB support will improve to the point of allowing the box to stay up for whole days on end. It's my "Intel Outside" that I won't describe a second time.
