March of the Living 1999 Diary
April 17, 7:05 PM
Well, in keeping with the spirit of Shabbat, I haven’t written today. I guess I’ll fill you in on what’s been happening since yesterday.
We had services before supper yesterday. They were okay, but nothing special.
Supper was good last night, but again nothing special.
And then we horahed. That was special. It wasn’t just your typical dance-in-a-circle horah, either. There were some guys who went up on people’s shoulders. There was a line of guys, shoulder to shoulder, who caught people between them and danced around them. I got caught twice. Then something really fun: two people, their hands around the other’s neck, arms outstretched. Take two smaller people, doing the same thing, with their arms over the other people’s arms. Then have the people on the bottom start spinning. My feet were off the ground! (I was one of the two people on top) It was so much fun. We went on for a really long time, but I didn’t look at my watch because it would defeat the purpose.
Then this morning we went to a synagogue near the hotel. It was very pretty, or so everyone said. I guess I didn’t really notice.
We didn’t do very much today because it’s Shabbat. So really there’s not much to tell. We leave tonight, though. I’m so excited!
We have a hike tomorrow, in Israel, and I would have liked to shave (o I could wear shorts), but I haven’t. I’ll just wear light pants. The whole point of the March (until now) was that we should realize how lucky we are just to be alive. I’ll just shave tomorrow. : )
