Imagine if all the artists appearing at Woodstock had been drag queens. Now you have some idea of Wigstock, an annual music festival held over Labor Day weekend in New York City. My cousin Beverly and her husband Alan have been going for years, but this was the first time that Melanie and I went. Alan arranged backstage passes for us.
Music ranged from punk rock to disco to opera. Watching the crowd was almost as entertaining as watching the stage. I ran into several friends I'd met at other circuit parties and on Sunday night I attended the last night of Arena at The Palladium - where Junior Vasquez played. Unfortunately the club is being closed down to make room for an apartment complex.
It was a great weekend and we had a wonderful time. |
