Stroman High School was known as the school on the wrong side of the tracks, but I can't imagine myself going to a better school or getting a better education. I kept up the hard work in tennis and made varsity my sophomore year. I was National Honor Society president and tennis team captain my senior year while taking 6 hours at The Victoria College and working part time at Du Pont.
After graduation I continued attending The Victoria College for another year, trying to find out what I wanted to study. I settled on chemical engineering and transferred to Texas A&M - Kingsville. After a year and a half I decided I wasn't happy with what I was doing. I moved back home and dual enrolled at The Victoria College and the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV).
During my time at UHV I worked with a terrific bunch of people in the Letting Education Achieve Dreams (LEAD) initiative. The purpose of the initiative is to encourage students to continue their education after high school. I got a kick out of giving presentations to students of all ages. I finished my bachelors degree in computer science and decided I wanted to continue my education. My time with LEAD made me realize how rewarding it is to work with students and inspired me to go for my teacher's certification. I applied for several masters programs and decided to attend the University of Texas at Arlington.
