Dickerman C. Ames & Rebecca Perdue


Dickerman C. Ames was born in the state of New York and went to Ohio during his boyhood. He purchased land of the government and he continued to operate a portion of that property until his death, which occurred in 1885. He was buried in the Guss cemetery at Elmore, Harris Twp, Ottawa Co, Ohio. In 1841 he married Rebecca Perdue, who was born in 1822 and their family consisted of six children - William, Alfred, Silas, Sarah, Nancy Ann and Mary Ellen, of whom Nancy Ann was drowned in the Portage River, near Elmore, while bathing; Alfred is also deceased;and Mary Ellen is now Mrs. Drake of Michigan.                                Dickerman C. Ames,Deceased.

 

Notice to Heirs

To Rebecca Ames, widow of the deceased, William Ames, Silas Ames, Sarah Jane Weiss and Mary Ellen Ames.

You are hereby notified that on the 25th day of November A.D. 1884, an instrument of writing, purporting to be the last will and testament of Dickerman C. Ames, late of Harris Township, in said county, deceased, was produced in open court and an application to admit the same to probate was on teh same day made in said court. Said application will be for hearing before this court on the 6th day of December, A.D. 1884 at 11 o'clock AM.

Witness my hand and the seal of said Court at Port Clinton, Ohio this 25th day of November, 1884.

In the name of the Benevolent Father of All; I, Dickerman C. Ames,of the Township of Harris, County of Ottawa and State of Ohio, of the age of Fifty Three(53) years and being of sound mind and memory do make and declare this my last will and testament.

1st. I give and devise to my beloved wife, Rebecca Ames, in lieu of dower, the Farm on which we now live the same being Section Nineteen(19), Township Six(6),Range Fourteen (14) except this part of the same heretofore deeded to Robert Black and also except that part heretofore deed to conveyed to John Dreghorn situate in Ottawa County and State of Ohio during her natural life and all the Stock,household goods and chattels which may be thereon and all my personal property of every kind and description during her natural life as aforesaid, she however selling so much thereof as may be sufficient to pay my just debts.

2nd. At the death of my wife, I devise, give and bequeath the Real Estate aforesaid and all the stock thereon at that time to my son Silas on condition that he pay my daughter Mary Ellen within six months after the decease of my wife the sum of one Thousand dollars.

3rd.At the death of my wife, I devise, give and bequeath all my household furniture, beds,bedding, carpets &c to my daughter, Mary Ellen.

4th.In consideration of the advancements I have heretofore made to my son William and my daughter Sarah Jane I do not will them anything in this my last will and testament

5th.I hereby nominate and appoint my beloved wife executrix of this my last will and testament hereby authorizing and empowering her to compromise, adjust and discharge in such a manner as she may deem the debts and claims due me. I do authorize and empower her if it shall become necessary in order to pay my debts to sell by private sale or in such manner as she may think proper all or any part of my Real Estate or personal property and deeds to purchasers, to execute and acknowledge and deliver in fee simple.

I desire that no appraisement and no sale of personal property be made and that my said wife may not be required to give bonds as executrix of my estate and that the Court of Probate direct the omission of the same in pursuance of the Statute.

In Testimony Hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 17th day January A.D. 1870.

Whereas I Dickerman C. Ames of the Township of Harris, County of Ottawa,and State of Ohio, on the 17th day of January A.D. 1870 made my last will and testament of that day do hereby declare the following to be a codicil to the same,1st, I do hereby revoke the devise and bequest given to my son Silas Ames and mentioned in the 2nd item of said will.

2d. At the death of my wife, I devise give and bequeath unto my son Silas Ames and his heirs the real Estate given and bequeathed to my wife for her natural life in said will except that part of said Real Estate described as follows,about one acre in the northwest corner of said real estate upon which now stands my brick house in which I now live, the boundaries of which is defined by an enclosure around said land.

3d. At the death of my wife, I devise bequeath and give to my daughter, Mary Ellen, and her heirs the following described real estate, about one acre of land out of the northwest corner fo the west half of the northeast quarter of Section Nineteen, Town, Six, Range Fourteen in Ottawa Co, Ohio upon which now stands the brick house in which I now live and which is bounded by an enclosure(fence) around same.

4th item. At the death of my said wife, I give devise and bequeath to my son Silas Ames all the Stock and farming tools on the land above devised to him.

5th. In Testimony hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 23rd day of February A.D. 1878.
