| Comments: Renee, your comment regarding the doctor and taking accutane spaced out evenly throughout the day due to bacteria levels on the skin. I think somewhere along the way someone got confused or the derm is just plain wrong. I'm obviously not a doctor, but he may have been talking about antibiotics like minocin, tetracycline, etc. Accutane is not an antibiotic it is highly concentrated synthesized form of vitamin A. It works to temporarily shrink your oil glands. The bacteria levels could rise, fall, stay the same, what the bacteria needs is the oil in your skin to produce blemishes. By denying the oil, less or no blemishes can form. Why this works after you go off the drug and the oil glands begin producing oil again I don't think is understood very well. The iAs for me, in the middle of my 6th week, normal side effects, worst are the dry, red patches on my hands and upper arms, but moisturizing and taking Rx hydrocortisone cream. Skin definitely better than before, less breakouts, when they do occur smaller and go away faster but still annoying at times. Staying optimistic though, if it's done this much in 5 and a half weeks, I'm pretty hopeful. |
