The Dragonfly closed last October for a month long
renovation. Although some people liked
the claustrophobic confines before the renovation, I personally like it better after. Now,
the club
has high ceilings, and room to walk around, but most importantly, there's now more room
around
the bar for people to order. It's so much easier to get a drink now, and isn't that what
it's all
about? The drinks can be expensive, but you definitely get your money's worth. They are
strong!
For the quickest service, go to the short bar end right by the entrance. As far as
bartenders go,
the Dragonfly has one of the city's best. Her name is Tina,
and she rocks this place. Besides
making the strongest drinks, she has an incredible body that she flaunts to her advantage.
Needless
to say, she makes great tips! She'll be one of our first bartenders of the month.
Keep a lookout
for her. As for the crowd, it all depends on the band that plays. Most people attend to
see a certain
band, as opposed to just showing up to the club regardless of entertainment. The crowd
ratio of
female to male all depends on the following of that night's entertainment. (Hint: check
their web-site
for guest list info)

This place is two bars in one. Downstairs, you have typical
Irish pub style casual bar. Upstairs,
you have a more upscale, dressier "club." Dublin's is at the old Carlos
& Charlie's site on the
Sunset strip. There are a couple things to note here. Number one is the crew of
waitresses.
They rock. Dublin's uniform is black stretch pants, and white halter or tank-tops. Outfits
aside,
the true character of the waitresses is that they love to get super-loaded with the
customers.
They'll always oblige to do shots with you. Just be sure to tip them well, and they'll be
"your's"
all night. There are pool tables in the adjoining room, but who cares when partying with
the
waitresses is this much fun. Oh yeah, there is always a healthy amount of non-working
girls,
as well. Ratio is usually 50-50 of girls to guys, not bad. The drinks are average in
strength, and
moderately priced. If you guy upstairs, it really does feel like you've stepped into a
different bar
altogether. It's like night and day. Upstairs, the decor is very upscale, as well as being
beige in
color (the downstairs Irish bar is obviously green.) This makes Dublin's a great place to
go with
a group that can't decide between a club and a bar. Here, there's something for every-
one. And,
as a kicker, it's right next door to the Body Shop strip bar! Basically, Dublin's (and the
vicinity)
is your one stop shop. Oh yeah, they serve food, too.

A restaurant/bar with the emphasis on bar, Lola's opened
last year in this small villa-like space
on Fairfax. The two full bars are packed on Friday nights, and getting a drink can be
difficult. It
is well worth the wait. They use huge glasses, filled with a 50/50 ratio of JD and coke.
The
bartender at the bar closest to the door actually seems to relish the strength of the
drinks he pours.
You've gotta love that. And the $5 price tag is excellent, considering the stiffness. The
crowd is
young Hollywood happy hour. Men and women wear uniform black suits. Actress Reese
Witherspoon was there the last time we went. Half the crowd wanted to represent her, the
other
half wanted to be the new Reese Witherspoon. You get the idea.

Best Nights: Concert Nights | Avg. Age Range: 21-30 |
The only real time that I go here is for concerts. During
concerts, it's a lot of fun. After concerts
the weekends, they have different theme nights sponsored by various LA radio
stations. From
what I've heard, these theme nights are pretty weak. Anyways, the crowd on concert nights
obviously depends on the act that you're seeing. The bar is good size, and from the
bar, you
have a pretty clear view to the stage. The bar can get crowded, but I found that if you go
to the
right side of the bar (viewed from the stage) you can usually find some good real estate.
The
drinks usually start off weak, but improve as you get to know your bartender. Drinks are
moderately priced, but not bad for a concert venue. Overall, it's one of the better
mid-sized
venues for seeing shows.

Even though there is no sign, you'll know when you've found
this place. On the top of the
building is a big clown with a sign that reads, "Bargain Clown Mart." It's
basically on the N-W
corner of the intersection. Park inside the strip mall parking lot. Anyways, this has got
to be one
of the darkest bars in all of LA. They can't use more than 120 watts to light the whole
interior.
This is a great place to go to either start the night, or end the night. You enter into
the main bar
room, which is connected to another (more well lit) room which only contains booths, but
no bar.
The drinks are wickedly strong, but can be quite costly. The crowd is usually very even in
respects
to males and females. It really doesn't matter what you wear, since you can't see your
hand in front
of your face anyway! Since this is more of a word of mouth bar, you can usually get in
without a problem. As well, some of the Hollywood crowd attends because of its low-key
environment.
Definitely check this place out.

What can I say about the infamous Viper Room? Well, despite
all the press, and any preconceived
notions about the place, this bar is actually really fun. Especially lately because most
of the
curious people have come and gone. Now it's the crowd that really just wants to have
party.
You enter off the street that intersects Sunset. You walk in a straight hallway that leads
to a small,
intimate bar. You're actually on the lower level. This downstairs bar is fun when
you come with
a group, because it's quieter and dark, and you can really get to know the lone bartender.
If you
continue upstairs, you enter the main room. There's a bar along one wall, with a stage in
the
opposite corner. There's usually entertainment of some sort, no matter what night you
attend.
And, you never know who may take the stage as surprise unannounced guests. Let me warn
you,
it does get really crowded in the main room. There are booths along the walls, but
they're usually
reserved for people. The drinks are average in the upstairs main bar, but they're usually
really
strong in the small bar on the lower level. My advice would be to get your drinks
downstairs and
then cruise to the upstairs main room. If you like martinis, go on Thursdays when
they have
martini night with a full menu of various kinds. Overall, it's a really fun place,
so go and see for
yourself what all the hype is NOT about.

The Whisky is legendary in the music world. It's where
bands like the Doors & Van Halen got
their starts. But that's for review by another website. We're here to talk about the bar.
There is a
medium sized bar downstairs, and a smaller one upstairs. The downstairs bar, in my
opinion, is
the better of the two. There's usually these two girls who work it that are easy to get to
know,
which equates to stiffer drinks. The place is all ages, so the bar is usually only lightly
packed, as
many in the crowd may be underage (a big plus). You can see the stage from the downstairs
bar,
but your view is terrible from the upstairs one. This place can really rock when
it's crowded, and
the cover is usually pretty cheap (free on Mondays). It's a great place to let loose.
