Chat Programs

There are other chat stuff on the net as well. The net is not just made of the World Wide Web. There are other things that consitute to it such as FTP, GOPHER, etc. Chatting using a program to connect to another person is part of it too. When chatting using a program instead of via the web, it has a different feel to it and lets you, the chatter more freedom, options, and speed. I know because I chat using a chatting program. The favorites of the net seem to be heading in the direction of IRC or PowWow. ICQ is also another favorite.

Well, here's my list so far...feel free to e-mail me if you know or use any other programs.

Cool Talk
This is a feature that comes with Netscape itself. So if you want Cool Talk, you have to download Netscape Navigator yourself. I have not, so I have no opinion on this subject. And if you do want to get Cool Talk, I think you have to choose with components for the Netscape of your choice. Have fun!

ICQ Chat Program
I have heard from a good source that this program is like Pow Wow as well and NetMeeting. But it has a notification thing-a-ma-jig that notifies you when people you know is online. Isn't it cool?

Pow Wow
This is the chat program I use most often. You can trasfer files, surf the web together, play sounds to each other, draw pictures on the white board for or together as well as a bunch of other stuff too! Use the white pages look up a person or chat with one that appeals to you, or go to a conference with a lot of other people there as well or you can use the search thingy to look up for someone that share the same intrest as you. Oh yes...it only works for IBM users using WINDOWS.

mIRC
I haven't got this up and running for me yet. It just won't let me connect to an IRC server! Give it a try yourself. The program is shareware and it would be nice to pay the programer some money for it so he can work on the program further and bring you better features.

Microsoft Net Meeting
It's a lot like pow wow, but it has video included. Yes, there is voice, but I don't recall it letting you play sound (.wav) to each other. There is also a white board like they have in Pow Wow, express you artistic skills to others!!!

Wintalk
This program lets two people talk back and forth if they have Windows

I-Phone
This is a program that lets you speak to another person on the net. Like voice chat. Try it out and really get to hear just what people are saying!

Main Menu
Like any of those programs? They are quite different that all those web based chat places huh?
