Journal Covers

A few of you may have seen my journal cover, either in person or on the site
I recently did a new one for myself for the coming year, and also did a bunch
for Christmas gifts. Anyway, for the curious, here's a record of all of them

The process:
First I pick a picture. (some of my friends Jamie and Ashley Edwards)

Then I turn it into black and white.

Then I bump up the contrast.

After that I print out a copy, cut out a stencil with an exacto knife, and paint it on
The acrylic paint make a really durable bond down in the porous cover of the journals I buy
(the cheap ones ones from Borders/Walden)

Anyway, that's it. Here's the rest, along with
the picture/s that inspired them.

A picture of Billy:

My first try:

My second attempt, Spencer Melson at the Camera

My planner cover for this year. The ladder
is a ladder in Gonaives leading to...somewhere not on this earth.
The eyes are those of an orphan from Gonaives. Reflected in them you can see me
(in the original photo at least). Hopefully it'll help me remind to get out and do something
important this year.

Enoch took this amazing picture, I borrowed it for his planner cover, it's
one of my favorites

Jamie and Ashley Edwards, again.

My friend Angie:

This one is of Mom Porch and her grandkids N.M. and Emilee. I used parts of
three pictures. It was adventurous, but I wasn't entirely happy with the results
Always like a challenge though!

Another more involved attempt that didn't come out quite as well (I think)
Simple is better sometimes! The next one for instance is one of my faves

Enoch vogueing with an eggroll
