Promise To A Stranger

I don't have to listen to your voice
To know that my heart
Would blissfully smile at the sound of it,
Hearing an entire symphony
Composed around your every word.
In a single whisper, you would wake,
Inside me, a chorus of nightingales
Fluttering their wings around a palpitating heart.

I don't have to look into your eyes
To be certain of the magic of their gaze.
Completely lost, I know I would be,
Amidst the million bright stars
Inside the firmament of your stare.
One look and fly with you I would
Through every galaxy of Heaven.

I don't have to hold your hand
To know that the feel of your skin
Would tickle me all the way through my spine,
Leaving me blushing as the fairest rose.
Fingers interlaced and palms kissing,
Our hands locked tight together,
We would only have to let our senses lead
And our minds would simply follow.

I don't have to touch your lips with mine
To taste the sweet nectar of your kiss.
Dizzy, I already am, as I imagine
The exquisiteness of your mouth against my own,
Breathing passion into my lungs
And fire inside my veins
Oh, delicious delirium!
As our tongues would,
For the first time, meet.

I don't have to lie in your arms
To know that I would find home in your embrace.
With my head on your heart
And your warmth wrapped, like a cloak, around me,
I would be as content as
A growing baby inside a mother's womb.
Every moment spent being held
Close within the shelter of your body
I would savor as the very first and the very last.

I don't have to fall in love with you
To know that to do so would
Send my life into everlasting orbit.
I would fall again day after day after day,
Finding inside my heart,
Every second of every minute of every hour,
Stronger feelings, deeper knowledge, greater purpose.
As your best friend, your lover and your soul-mate,
I would forever walk this world,
And the next,
With no one else but you.
