It's 12.10 pm and strains of Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony is filling the air in my lab. It seems that it is actually a tone painting of Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony but nevertheless, it's a joy to listen to.
With reference to the title of my mail, how sure are we that what we perceive to be good is actually good? To someone else, it could be bad. How sure are we that what we perceive to be bad is actually bad? Again, to someone else, it could be good. Where do we draw the line?
It is generally understood that God is good. Then, you may ask, "Why are there so many 'bad' things happening in the world today?" Then, again, are we sure these things are 'bad' after all? Personnaly, God has His ways of doing things and there are reasons, only known fully to Him, why things work out to be the way they are. A lot depends on us to accept what we perceive to be 'bad'.
In relation to good and bad, right and wrong can also be an issue of debate. When we feel we are right or assume we are right on an issue, how sure are we of the truth? For those who are supposedly wrong, how sure are we they are wrong? They might be right after all. Again, where do we draw the line?
Of course, as students we hope to answer all our exam questions correctly. We often hope that what we write on the answer sheets are worthy of being correct. Are they always so? Then again, are the examiners correct all the time?
With that I leave you for now. Oh, yes. One more small thing before I go. Remember the famous phrase "Love is blind"? Is this true? Is it not?
Take care and God bless.
With warm wishes,
Bart
