Drip... Drip...

7th May 1997

Water... water... My bathroom shower has had a leak since I moved in some 2 weeks ago. Now, it's worse... filling a big pail every hour or so. We had to resort to turning off the main to prevent any wastage. I hope it'll be fixed soon or I'll be sleeping on a waterbed...

Last night, as I flipped through the bible, I stopped at the passage on The Healing at the Pool - John 5. John 5:7 read: The sick man answered, "Sir, I don't have anyone here to put me in the pool when the water is stirred up; while I am trying to get in, somebody else gets there first."

According to the footnote, some manuscripts add: They were waiting for the water to move because every now and then an angel of the Lord went down into the pool and stirred up the water. The first sick person to go into the pool after the water was stirred up was healed from whatever disease he had.

As I pondered over the pool, the angel and the healing power of the pool's water, it dawned upon me that we, too (but in a different context), feel 'sick'... when we refrain from regular bathing. Personally, I occasionally feel tired or even lazy to take a bath (it's not that I don't want to!). I just feel, well, tired or lazy... However when I finally do, it feels great. Water refreshes the spirit, rejuvenates the soul and resensitises the senses. I feel renewed. No wonder water is used for baptism and not... not some other thing.

Speaking of water, I've had many encounters with water of late... my dripping shower, the passage I read, my few sweating episodes due to tennis and not forgetting my swims in my apartment pool. I wonder if this means anything... Can someone enlighten me?

Well, I think I'll sign off for now. Until then, take care and God bless.

Yours waterly,
Bart
