The Vegabond and His Aluminium Cans...

It was about 6.30 in the evening. I was waiting for my bus at the bus-stop in front of the Central Market. A vegabond, wearing something which resembled an army combat uniform, sat a distance away from the curb with some aluminium cans with him.

Clunk-clunk! He threw a can onto the road and proceeded to squeeze the center of another can. He then threw it onto the road like the first one. I was annoyed. "He's making a mess of the road", I thought to myself. Krak... krak! Cars ran over the cans, flattening them. He did the same to the remaining cans. I just stood there, watching.

Then, it suddenly dawned upon me that what he was doing was actually very ingenious. Basically, most people would flatten aluminium cans which they intend to recycle so that they would take up less space. The vegabond was doing just that. The reason that he squeezed the center of the cans was so that when they were thrown onto the road, they would stand straight for the cars to roll over. The end result: neatly flattened aluminium cans!
