DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN
While three people from The Sunday Express continue to debate the true
meaning of the 'Be Here Now' sleeve, Select is proud to present an
exclusive preview of the cover art for "All Around The World" - not to
be released until Christmas. Your host: sleeve artist Brian Spanner!
Brian Spanner @ MiniSpot Design
A long-time associate of Oasis, Brian Spanner is a respected sleeve
designer with a CV that includes Northern Uproar, The Gyres and some
band from Nantwich who no one can remember (although the tramp we met
this morning reckons they were called 'Pukka'). Famed for his 'turn p,
grab some crap out of a skip, stretch the film and make out it's dead
significant' approach, Spanner's first exhibition will be premieredat
Rhyl Sun Centre this October.
POP WILL EAT ITSELF ALBUM
'That was f*****' Whitey's idea. You've got to let the drummer have ne
bit. The other thing is, right, as Liam pointed out, 'PWEI' could mean
'Paul Was Equally Insane'. Like, Paul McCartney was mad for it! Everyone
thinks Lennon was the only mad one, but Macca was proper having it! He
was!"
SHOP CALLED 'PINSTRIPE'
"F*****' dead obscure. You know that band Gene? They were called Spin
a bit ago, and Oasis supported 'em at The Boardwalk. Noel's amp broke
and the guitarist, some posh f***er with a Paul Weller haircut, wouldn't
let him use his. So this is Noel getting his own back, cos it's an
angram of'Spin are tripe'. Almost."
BLOKE EMERGING FROM CAR BOOT WITH TEAPOT
"That's Luigi Mattocks, this mad f***er who they take on the road.
Theylet him on the sleeve cos Noel owes him £120. He's meant to be a
vampire. It's based a bit on a film called 'Tea With Dracula' that Noel
says he saw once in Finland with the Inspirals. Apparently, this geezer
just keeps jumping out of his coffin going, 'Tea With Dracula? PG Tips?
Ty-phoo? I want to have a brew!' Or so that mad c*** reckons."
H 313 AGA
"Another drugs thing. 'H' is heroin, right? It means there are 313
people in the Manchester area on smack. Now. this is the good bit, 'AGA'
means, 'apart from Guigs, always'. It's his way of telling his mam and
his bird that he'll never go off the rails. I think he cried when he
came up with that."
PIERCE BROSNAN
"It's another 'All Around The World' thing. Cos 'Goldeneye' and all that
were proper big-budget travel tackle, weren't they? Ski-ing,
snorkelling, hang-gliding - Thomas Cook meets James Bond tourism sort of
thing. That one was Guigsy's."
SPOTTY DOG
"Right. Spell that backwards. 'God Yttops', you see? That's Noel's way
of apologising to his mam for what he said a bit ago about religion, cos
it sounds a bit like 'God Is Top'. Good one, that."
TINS OF BEANS
"Well, that's the real 'All Around The World' part, innit? Cos people
eat beans all around the world. They do! I've got an uncle who live in
Australia, right, and he's mad on beans. The other thing is, right, if
you've done Liam's head in, ne calss you, 'Beanhead'..."
GIRL IN KAGOOL
"Don't know who she is. But we gave her six quid and a bottle of
Liebfraumilch, so she was well happy."
TV SET
"This is where it gets complicated. The telly's not smashed up or
anything, right? But the 1993 sign's bust. Noel says that means that
Oasis don't throw tellies out the window any more, and they're only up
for smashing the past. F*****' deep dude, Noel. Proper deep."
POT NOODLE
"That's bonehead. He just turns up at the shoot and goes, 'Brian, I
f*****' like Pot Noodle, right, so put summat on this sleeve or I'll put
a big scratch on the new Merc you only got cos of us.' He's the joker of
the band, Bonehead. Top-guy."
1993 SIGN
"Turn it upside down, right. What does that say? E 661! That's cos Oasis
have done 661 E's since 1993. Give or take a dozen, obviously. But
that's a bloody coincidence, innit?"
