The Jewish side of David Weinberg

What made Judaism important to me?

I am Jewish since I was born Jewish and have always identified with being Jewish but i haven't always believed in it strongly. I used to attend Shul on a weekly basis but only really because I had to. I had a bar mitzvah and all the usual stuff.

I have an older sister who revealed to my family at a dinner to celebrate my 14th birthday that she has become a Messianic Jew. They are Jews that believe the Messiah has already come and that Jesus was the Messiah. My parents consulted our Rabbi about the situation and he suggested that the whole family attend a Project SEED "Challenge" seminar. Project SEED is a Jewish outreach organization much like the Discovery Programme run by Aish HaTorah. The "Challenge" seminar gets Jews to question their roots and educates them on what they are giving up.

Unfortunately Project SEED had no effect on my sister and she has subsequently been Baptized as a Christian and married out.

How I have changed because of it

The SEED seminar did effect me and my parents. I have subsequently become more religious and now keep strict Kashrut and am fully Shomrey Shabbat. My life has changed a lot since I became more religious. When I changed schools post GCSEs I moved to a Jewish school. After my GCSEs I went to Israel on tour with Bnei Akiva and last summer I went to Israel with The Danny Frei Jerusalem Fellowships, part of Aish HaTorah. It was cool and I heard lots of excellent speakers and made loads of great friends. I would definitely recommend it to anyone between 17 and 25. This isn't shameless advertising, honest, I really do think Fellowships is brilliant.

Anyway that's me and why I am Jewish. Please return to my home page and then move on to another part of my site.
