More than 120,000 children, some as young as seven, are serving as soldiers in Africa, a report published by a group of human rights and peace organizations said on Monday.
The U.K. Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers, which includes the British arms of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Amnesty International, urged governments in Africa to stop recruiting minors under 18 into their armed force.
"Some children volunteer to join the armed forces but tens of thousands of children are forced to join up, sometimes at gunpoint", the group said in a news release issued by UNICEF.
"Government-sponsored militias pose particular problems, as they are not adequately trained or monitored, but the worst abuses been committed by armed opposition groups", it added.
Boys were the main target of recruitment, but girls were also being sought by rebel groups and given to their members as wives. Those who refused to conform were killed to serve as an example to others, the report said.
"When not engaged in combat, children are often used to man checkpoints. Adults tend to stand further back so that if bullets start flying, the children will be the first victims", it said.
The report alleged children had been recruited by either governments or rebel groups in Africa nations including Angola, Burundi, Congo Brazzaville, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sudan and Uganda.

Alia' R. Jafar - EgyptIs That A Father ?
I was working in a store and I found a little lost girl she was so happy that I was there to help her. Two hours past by with no parents asking about her. Finally her parents came and picked her up she hid behind me scared of her dad. He grabbed her by the arm in the middle of the store in front of everyone and hit her so so hard on her lower back that she fell to the ground and started to cry for help, everyone could not believe what just happened. We called mall security and had to make sure that he will not hit her anymore as she laid there crying on the cold floor of the store her dad picked her up by the arm and drag her out side. I felt so sorry for her, but I couldn't do anything because it is against the law in the US to interfere unless I am a cop...
Till now I can just see her drop to the floor with pain.

Randa H. Al-Sharif - EgyptYara and I:
I only saw her twice, we had a nice little chat and she was incredibly adorable. I didn't feel or notice that there was an unusual thing , but the "Eid" time was something different.
I was enjoying the sun near the swimming pool, she walked towards me, she grappled my hand and we moved together to the edge of the swimming pool, we sat down, and I dipped my legs into the nice cool water ...
"Do you have children.?", she asked. Actually, I was really surprised from that unexpected question, I smiled .. "No, I am not married yet".
"How come !, you look old enough to be married and have kids"..,
"mmmmm, well, you can say that I didn't find the right person yet.".., she looked at me .. nodded .. and looked at the pool..
Lots of questions were waving in my mind, may be the most worrying one was..'What is happening in here ?!' .. and before I say anything .. she interrupted the annoying silence and said ..
" Do you love kids ?" .. and before I answer her, she asked me to take my sunglasses off, and I did,... "Yes I do.. yes .. of course I do"...
"Shall I give you an advise then.?" .. again, I was totally in a shocking situation, I didn't say a single word .. I only nodded and waited to the advise that was going to be spilled out. I looked at here .. here body was next to me, but her thoughts were beyond than faraway, as if she was trying
to gather the flying thoughts of that advise of her ....
"If you ever got married .. and if you ever had kids .. don't you ever think that they do not recognize the events surrounding them .. they have feelings as well, may be you will think that they are too young to understand things .. it is not true .. they do, especially the matters that are most concerned
with their parents. If the parents will ever going to start a fight, they shouldn't do that in front of their kids .. If one of them is going to leave for a long time.. even if it was a whole day .. they should mention that to their kids and should prepare them for their absence .. always talk to you kids .. always listen to them .. and don't think that they don't understand .. no .. they do ..don't think that they don't feel lonely sometimes .. no .. they do .. but one thing that you should never forget to do with them is hugging them .. if they missed that hug .. they will feel dispirit .. they will feel lonely .. very lonely .. and they might search for a warm hug from a stranger .. and that is soooo bad."Then she stared at me so expressively ..... an innocent tear drops fall down from her lovely green eyes .. whereas I managed to halt mine from flowing,
and I found my self hugging her so warmly .. hugging Yara the 6 years old little girl, who needed to share a hug with a stranger.

Donate: American Red CrossM ichael Lerner, editor of TIKKUN Magazine and rabbi of Beyt Tikkun Synagogue in San Francisco, suggests that America must share her resources rather than ignore global suffering and poverty.
"If we respond to the terrorists with violence, we will promote more fear," Lerner tells WebMD. "If, instead, we ask how to build a new bottom line of love and caring, both within our own society and around the world, we have a chance of actually defeating the underlying despair that leads some people to support terror."
Why Killing Tourists
Ugandan police said on Tuesday that five foreign tourists were killed and seven others rescued following their abduction by Rwandan Hutu rebels from a game park on the Congo border.
Kampala, (CNN)Welcoming international visitors ?:
Three bodies were found Friday that authorities believed belong to three Americans kidnapped by suspected leftist rebels in Colombia last week.
The bodies were found just across the border in Venezuela. The two women had four bullet wounds each, and the man six. Colombia has the world's highest kidnapping rate, and international visitors are often targeted because they tend to fetch the highest ransoms, typically several hundred thousand dollars each. The FARC claims it only kidnaps wealthy tourists in order to collect "war taxes."
