Chapter 2

As the game came to an end, Dana and her friends cheered triumphantly. As
the team stood on the court looking rather smug, Dana ran down the steps to
congratulate her already beaming captain. Josh saw Dana standing at the exit
and began to run towards her when he was interupted.

"Hey Josh" Coach Madison called over. He was about to call him in for a 'team
talk' but seeing Dana in the door way he shrugged and congratulated him.

"Good game"

"Thanks"

Josh turned toward Dana, and paused taking in the full sight of her. Long dark
hair shone beneath the stadium lights and her emerald green eyes seemed to
sparkle. The clothes she wore hugged her perfect figure but still remained
casual.

"Hey D" he called. 'D' was what he always called her. She liked it because no
one else used it. It was like a pet name only he was supposed to say. As he
came closer he picked her up and swung her around.

"We won"

"I know" She screamed "I was here."

"In the end!" He gently placed her on the floor, he lightly kissed her nose. If
he could he would kiss again and again but he knew it made Dana uneasy and so
he was always careful.

"See Ya in a minute Josh" said a tall black haired guy as he walked behind then
tapping Josh on the shoulder.

"Sure thing Sandy" Josh replied reluctantly removeing his gaze from Dana.
Left alone in the doorway, Dana kissed Josh unexpectantly.

"What was that for" he said queitly, secretly pleased she'd kissed him.

"Do I need a reason to kiss my boyfriend."

"Not if it's for my benefit."

They reluctantly parted and she walked to her jeep. She knew he would drive his
car to the restaurant so she went ahead.

At Mac Donalds, she found their usual booth in the corner of the restaurant.
The two seater table, was where they always sat, even if the rest of the guys
sat somewhere else. She sat down and waited for Josh to arrive.

After waiting for over an hour, Dana began to get worried. She looked at her
watch and tapped it lightly. She held it to her ear and compared it to a clock
in the restaurant. It was working and as she stared at it her eyes became
misty. Dana got up and started towards the exit, tears falling from her face.
As she made her way to the door, she bumped into someone obviously entering the
building and dropped her bag, the contents of which scattered across the floor
in front of her.

"Woah" yelled the man.

"I'm Sorry" she sniffed through tears of confusion. Her voice was croaky from
where she was crying.

"No, I'm sorry" said the stranger, who was now helping her pick up her things.
Noticing her red puffy eyes he was quickly concerned.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

Dana looked up to see an attractive guy of about 18 knelt in front of her. She
paused to wipe her eyes.

"Fine thanks." She finally whispered. She looked closly at him. He wore a black
baseball cap which almost covered his blond hair, a wisp of which fell over his
left eye. His eyes were blue and caught her immediate attention. She wanted to
brush away the hair which covered one of his eyes, but resisted and turned
quickly.

"So......Dana"

She immediately looked up, surprised at the use of her name. Did she know him?

"That is your name?" he asked.

"Yeah but how..."Dana stopped to look at what he was holding. She recognised it
as her Manuscripts from her singing class. They had her name written in the top
left hand corner, and few pencil marks scribbled below.

"So, you write songs." Nick sounded interested. His voice seemed familiar but
she couldn't remember where she had heard it.

"um... yeah, I mean, no."

Nick looked at her as if to ask for more information.

"I mean I could but I'm not too good at reading music so I don't. I sing
though."

The stranger handed the sheets back in silence, as they both stood staring at
each other. Dana finally broke the silence.

"So you are?"

"Oh Nick" He extended a hand. Dana stuffed the papers in her bag and slung it
over her shoulder, and then quickly took his hand.

"I sing too" he said cheerfully. His eyes were locked onto hers. They were
green and were still red from her tears. Her dark hair fell over her shoulders.
As they stood awkwardly, Dana bit her bottom lip.

"Um maybe we could get together sometime?..." He asked "...to sing I mean"

"Sure"

"Okay well, you know the hotel on 12th street?"

"The Pavillion?" The Pavillion was the most expensive hotel in her town and
only really let celebrities stay. Although big, the rooms were exclusive and
even if you had the money it was difficult to get in.

"Yeah, that's it. Why not come by at 2 tomorrow and we'll work something out."

"sure"

They parted and Dana walked towards the door. She suddenly remembered she
hadn't eaten and was about to turn back when Josh came rushing through the
door, his face full of worry. He smiled in relief as Dana caught his eye.
Apologising they left the restaurant.
