The . . .dog, in life the firmest friend, the first to welcome, foremost to defend. |

Samson the pup
There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.
. . . a morning kiss, a discreet touch of his nose landing somewhere on the middle of my face. Because his long white whiskers tickled, I began every day laughing |

Things We Can Learn from a Dog |
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
When it's in your best interest, always practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
Take naps and always stretch before rising.
Run, romp and play daily.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you are happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you are criticized, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout . . . run right back and make friends.

The "OES" is homeloving--not given to roaming and fighting, and it is extremely agile; because of its intelligence, affection, and lack of boisterousness, it makes an ideal house dog (Sam?...not boisterous? Ummmmm....) A marked characteristic of the breed is its gait, which is quite like the shuffle of a bear when walking, but very elastic in his gallop. His tendency is to be "exactly" where you are -- always the shadow, always curled up at your feet. And morning "wakeup" kisses are the sloppiest on earth!

Samson (8 weeks of age)
Old English Sheepdog
The new "bobtail" had arrived. Samson; born on January 5, 1999. Sam was a fiesty pup destined to grow big and strong. The little guy weighed 16.4 pounds at the age of 7 weeks. Everyone says he's the biggest sheepdog they have ever encountered! |
Time out while I snooze
Here is another puppy shot. Would you believe that at the age of 10 months old that he weighed in at 91 pounds??!!! Ummmm, he's now has 120 pounds of pure energy. |
I have had several breeds of dogs (mixed, cocker spaniel, dobermans, WestHighland Terrier, Australian Silky Terrier, and Russian Wolf Hound) but the most loveable and wonderful is the Old English Sheepdog. Something about their "happy big doofus" attitude is like magic to the soul. These big teddy bear dogs love people and are totally absorbed by hugs from children. |
Samsom ~ 5 months
If a dog's prayers were answered, bones would rain from the sky.

Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made. |
