Aim High
Air Force

61 TAS
In June of 1982 I joined the Air Force in El Paso Texas. My first duty assignment was to Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas. I was assigned to the 308th Missile Maintenance Squadron working in the REFER (refrigeration) section. I was working in the TITAN II missile sites until August of 1986 when I began the training to become a C-130 flight engineer. In January of 1987 I reported to my first C-130 unit. The 61st Tactical Airlift Squadron. The Green Hornets. While there I went on 3 rotations to Europe and got a good taste of what being a flight engineer was all about.
In September of 1990 I left LRAFB to my new assignment. The 21 Tactical Airlift Squadron in Yokota Japan. The name changed several times during my tour there. The 21 TAS to the 21 ALS to the 21 AS. Now it is the 36 Airlift Squadron. Not long after arriving in Yokota, I left to Southeast Asia to participate in Desert Storm. I was there from January 1991 to July 1991. That was fun. It was a great tour, Yokota was.

In September 1992 I left Yokota to become part of the Special Operations family. I arrived in Fort Walton Beach Florida in mid October and reported to the 16th SOS at Hurlburt Fld. I flew on the AC-130H Gunship until May 1998 and had the opportunity to participate in many great adventures while deployed with this unit.

I reported to the 37 Airlift Squadron, Ramstein AB Germany in May 1998. This is a great squadron and I am loving being back in airlift again.

So now I am retired.

After 20 + years in the great Air Force I am a civilian. I am really liking it. The A.F. was great but it was restricitive and did not allow one to develop. (more to come on the issue ... with spelling corrections )
