ISAA's mission Statement: "The MISSION of
the International Size Acceptance Association (ISAA) is to promote SIZE
ACCEPTANCE and fight SIZE DISCRIMINATION throughout the world by means
of advocacy and visible, lawful actions.
ISAA's primary purpose is to end the most common
form of size discrimination and bigotry--that against fat children and
adults; ISAA will strive to defend the human rights of members affected
by other forms of size discrimination as well.
ISAA defines SIZE DISCRIMINATION as any action
which places people at a disadvantage simply because of their size. ISAA
defines SIZE ACCEPTANCE as acceptance of self and others without regard
to weight or body size. "

- Classes and Seminars dealing with Fat Issues and Fat Discrimination: Fat Discrimination is Illegal (Michigan) - 38 million Americans are significantly
overweight, and face social bias because of their size. Studies show that
fat people are discriminated against in employment, housing, public accommodations,
medical service, and more. Fat people are stigmatized, ridiculed, ostracized,
and the victims of tasteless jokes, despite evidence that 95-98% of diets
fail within 3 years. Our thin-obsessed society has had open season on fat
people, but that is going to change. Michigan is the only state in the
USA which specifically forbids discrimination against fat people. The
Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act #453 guarantees fat people the opportunity
to obtain employment, housing and other real estate, and the full and equal
utilization of public accommodations, public service, and educational facilities.
It is as much illegal to discriminate against a person because of his weight
as it would be to discriminate based on race. This seminar will help fat
people know their civil rights, and enlighten institutions to the susceptibility
to multi-million dollar law suits. (Michigan has unlimited compensatory
damages.)
