8th ACA National Convention

Smooth flights, an amazing host family (including one awesome tour guide :) ) who went above and beyond to make our trip enjoyable, an outstanding clogging convention with cloggers who made me feel most welcome, and the chance to sightsee and interact with native Australian animals...my first overseas trip couldn't have been more perfect! I could rave for days about my trip to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, for the 8th Australia Clogging Association's National Clogging Convention in June 2003, but instead I've decided to share just a few of the many pictures from my trip and the convention.

From a lookout point, Patricia Culliver (our host) points across the Port Phillip Bay to the city of Melbourne in the distance.

Me at Flinders Street Station (a main subway/tram station) in downtown Melbourne.

Me at the butterfly habitat at the Melbourne Zoo.

The butterflies loved Nick's (Patricia's grandson) yellow jacket.

Me teaching at the ACA Convention, held in the neighboring town of Werribee. What a beautiful floor and awesome crowd!

Another shot of me teaching, with the attending teams' banners hanging on the back wall.

Lunchtime with Patricia and her husband, Les. With scheduled breaks for "morning tea" (snack), lunch, "afternoon tea", dinner, and 10 p.m. snacking, I don't think I've ever eaten so good (or so much) at a workshop!

Yet another view of me teaching, where you can see the awesome stage backdrop built by the convention committee featuring local area symbols (a tram with Australian animals as passengers and a penguin as the tram's driver).

Ed Hooten (of New Mexico) and I receive gifts as the American guest instructors from Cheryl McFadyean (far left) and Patricia.

After the convention, Patricia, Monika Pocervina, me, and Cheryl took a trip to the Ballarat Wildlife Park (petting zoo).

Here I am surrounded by kangaroos!

During our visit, we witnessed this baby koala emerging from its mother's pouch for the very first time!

Me attempting to pet an emu.

The kangaroos found me again...this little one was so cute!

Sorry, I don't have any more food!

Many thanks to our host family! From left to right: Nick, Patricia, Brenda (Nick's mom and the Cullivers' daughter) and Les.

During my trip I even learned how to cook Australian...here I am enjoying a homemade "scone" (biscuits topped with jam and cream) on one of my last days in Australia.
