In my experience with Dals, they make great family pets. They are hyper as you have probably heard, but this can be controlled easily with minimal training. Dals are great pets for a larger person. If you want a Dal because you have kids that love to watch the movies, please, just allow them to watch the movie. My reason for saying this is, Dals are a large dog. In my experience they get up to 105 lbs. (obese) and are trim normally between 50 and 70 lbs. They can be trained to not jump to hold you, but this training may take a while according to how much effort is put forth toward training and how soon the training starts. If the dog shall be a yard dog (s)he will need plenty of space to run. I have a 200 sq. ft. kennel for my dogs as well as 400 more sq ft of fenced off area around the kennel for their room to play and excercise. I love my Dals, I wouldn't give them up for the world. I have owned 6 Dals in the past ,and all of them have been very smart, and obedient dogs. Dals have a way of picking their owner, not the other way around. You can pick the family, but never the master. When they feel that you are master, and in danger they will possibly attack, but can be controlled with little trouble and the proper training. Feeding 2 full grown Dals takes approx 50 lbs of dog food every 2-3 weeks. Louie (my sire) is very smart, He knows quite a few tricks, and loves to play all alone with his ball or frisbee. Louie will eat a large 8" rawhide bone in less than 2 hours. I have given him all of his training, and he did start out chewing a lot of my belongings up, but this was stopped fairly easily, by buying him a very rugged toy rope bone. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
