...because when this picture was taken, I was in Hawai'i! I do love to travel, and I managed to get to Hawai'i twice in 1997. In January I had a typical touristy time -- scuba, swimming, snorkeling, sunning, visiting friends and relatives. I also rented a plane and flew all around the Big Island with my friends Liko, Mahina and Davey. |
Poor Mahina was airsick from about 10 minutes into the flight, until we landed, but we flew past gorgeous cliffs and valleys on the North shore. |
After a stop in Hilo, we went upland a bit to fly over the Pu'u O'o Volcano vent. It was steaming and smelled pretty funky, |

Then we went upland a bit more to fly over the Kilauea Caldera, a volcanic crater where NASA | and Russian scientists test the Marsokhod Exploring Vehicle for Lunar and Martian exploration. |
Lucky me, I got to return to Hawai'i again at Thanksgiving time,
and stayed with my friends, Fabulous Fabio and the very Lovely Lucy.
After Thanksgiving Fabio and I went to Kaua'i for a few days.

However... ...I don't really recommend trying to hike along the Na Pali Coast in the rainy season! |
If you can't go to Hawai'i, at least visit... virtually
Step 1. Order up some Hawai'ian coffee and music.
Step 2. Log on to Virtual Hawai'i, from NASA/U Hawai'i at Manoa!
