Yes, we made it back from the States in one piece - well, two actually - and for those that haven't seen us we have a sun tan and enjoyed the Disney Magic, Drag Racing and the Smokey Mountains.
Anyway, enough of the holiday talk, let's get down to business.
The radio advert is, as I write, currently playing on Wave FM (105.2 - 105.8), and yes it even made me laugh at 7.30am - hard to do! As for Simon, well, nothing would make him laugh at that hour. [Cheeky old bat! - S.]
On the events front, as you can see from the diary, Eastleigh, Alton and Winchester are in the process of organising a varying array of events for your pleasure, while Portsmouth & Southsea along with Christchurch are organising
Children In Need.In the meantime Christchurch have had their On-Time Spooks and Ghouls Party, and as President of that club I wish to thank all those members of other clubs who came down and partied despite the weather. And well done to the Eastleigh car which made it with the help of the RAC proving Patrick is not the only one capable of breaking down recently.
The evening made a profit of £100, so thanks to everyone.
Anyway, moving on, the Sports Table is evidence of a growing number of Sports Challenges. Beware Steve of Alton and A D (my sports officer) are both after challenges. Remember the challenge can be as innovative as you like - Giant Jenga, Connect-4, Trivial Pursuit, indoor-hockey...
I look forward to seeing some of you soon either as President of Christchurch or the honorary member of Portsmouth & Southsea.
The hot news from the Channel Islands is that Jersey are 25 next year and are planning a celebration so watch this space for details - the boat trip over is fun.
Finally, my normal monthly plea - help us to write this newsletter!!! Let us know what you are up to, which charity you are supporting this year and if you have gained any new members. Let us know what you are up to
(Cindy Whitfield - District Treasurer)
For those of you who haven't sent in your District Subs (including Christchurch) you will have received a polite call. District Subs for the 1st half of the year are now well and truly overdue, so all those treasurers who have yet to pay please write that cheque today, otherwise we shall name and shame (it worked with the Directory).

the District Pub Crawl is creeping up on us - yes I know it only seems like August when we first heard about it, well it's nearly here.
There is a disco at Ye Olde George (Christchurch) for all those sober enough to crawl or drive that far.
The aim is to raise funds - the means : a body (preferably live Rotaract member) in a teddy-bear outfit or makeup, a minder, a driver and a collecting tin, visiting pre-arranged pubs to encourage the punters to donate half a pint in hard currency (sterling) and raise funds for a good cause.
Portsmouth & Southsea are also collecting at their workplaces whilst Alton are heading to Christchurch to go out with members from there.
If you would rather just attend the disco, the cost will be £3.50 on the door with ALL profits going towards the cause.
The District would like to thank Portsmouth & Southsea Rotary Clubs for their kind donations towards the cost of the disco (plus raffle prizes -S.)
We look forward to seeing you on the 20th Nov - if you wish to join Christchurch members ona crawl, just let me know (01425-622634).

On the 4th December, Winchester hold their 2nd Charity Pub Crawl and Quiz around Winchester. As one of the sober participants last year I can say that its a lot of fun even if you are driving. The evening is a very entertaining way to see the sights and varied and numerous pubs of Winchester while trying various local brews and the odd glass of mulled wine (I got a sip last year). In all the event is well worth the trip and is a lot of fun - and, no, they didn't pay anything for the plug.
On the subject of events, let us not forget Alton. As many of you know, when it comes to the Alton Barn Dance and Christchurch, a minibus just has to be mentioned - yes, even after 4 years, Patrick... This is another event well worth the trip. If only a few can make it then to fill the car, why not contact the next nearest club? By the way, if you haven't heard the minibus saga, give me or any of my members a bell - they will soon fill you in on the amount of fuel required to get a minibus from Christchurch to Alton [and back again, we hope - S.]

the District pop-quiz was held at the Valley Park Community Centre near Eastleigh on Sat 14th Nov. Eastleigh were the hosts, and it was good to see a good turnout. Ah, the lure of cheap booze! :0)
Bitterne and Woolston eventually won it ("The Plonkers"), which means they get to organise it next year. Thanks to Eastleigh for a fun evening out.
The delay in updating the web-site is down to holidays / PC-problems / work / alcohol / lack of sleep (in that order). For the first time I am using Microsoft's rather groovy FrontPage98 to create this site - I know most of you don;t give a stuff what I write this with, but as a programmer I can appreciate a decent dev-tool when I use one. Sorry, I digress....
You can email me personally on simon.dobby@cwcom.net, or the District on d1110@rotaract.org, which amounts to the same thing coz it diverts to my work email, anyway.
Please remember that if you have any events planned for Jan or Feb 1999, it would be wise to publicise them in the December mailshot (ie - tell us about them NOW!!!)
For those of you that have read the blurb on Winchester Wobble (Pub Crawl) that was posted in this month's mailshot, please note that it may well now start from a pub other than the Old Gaolhouse - apparently it can get very crowded.
That's about the size of my bit this month (now, now, don't make your own jokes up), but rest assured we shall be back next month with lots more stuff. Oh, and be warned, I think Heather has got her Christmas Head on already...
You can email us at d1110@rotaract.org.
