I received this honor recently and wanted to share it with all! Do not be fooled in thinking that it is all about me! NO! It is more about the code we Knights choose to attempt to live by!
This was sent to me from Lord Richard
I am pleased that you have accepted the title bestowed upon you . The
Order of Purple Lances welcome thee to its fold and may you serve it
with honour and pride .
From this day forth , thou shall
be known as Knight, Sir " ~Aiken Drum~ " , Chevalier D'Honneur of the
Order of Purple Lances .
The Heavens smile on thee , friend !
Lord Richard Hansen
"The Black Knight "
The Arcanian code of chivalry requires that a knight
always obey the seven commandments of chivalry
1.To serve the High Knightlord of Arcania .
2.To defend Arcania from all its enemies .
3.To protect the weak and fight for the right .
4.Always to fight the enemies of virtue and order .
5.Never to give up the fight until the foes are defeated .
6.Never to break faith with a friend and ally .
7.Always to display honour , courage , loyalty and courtesy
.
What is Chivalry? Chivalry was the strict code knights obeyed to be religious, honorable,
and courteous. Chivalry required that knights be brave, loyal, and just, speak only the truth,
be fair to their enemies, help people in distress, protect women, show mercy to the weak and
defenseless, and never to harm women or children.
The 10 Commandments of Chivalry
quoted directly from Chivalry by Leon Gautier
#1. Thou shalt believe what the Church teaches, and shalt observe its directions.
#2. Thou shalt defend the Church.
#3. Thou shalt respect all weaknesses, and shalt constitute thyself the defender of them.
#4. Thou shalt love the country in which thou wast born.
#5. Thou shalt not recoil before thine enemy.
#6. Thou shalt make war against the Infidel (those who attack the weak and the poor)
without cessation, and without mercy.
#7. Thou shalt perform scrupulously thy feudal duties, if they be not contrary
to the laws of God.
#8. Thou shalt never lie, and shalt remain faithful to thy pledged word.
#9. Thou shalt be generous, and give largesse to everyone.
#10. Thou shalt be everywhere and always the champion of the Right and the
Good against Injustice and Evil.
The Most Important Knightly Oath --
A knight was forbidden to ever harm a woman or child.
He could not stand by and allow a woman or child to be harmed.
Side Notes: Armored knights raised their visors to identify themselves when they rode
past their king. This custom has become the modern military salute.
