"Dawn", Gwen called from her desk. "A Mrs.
Heights for you".
Dawn looked up from her customer, "Tell her I can't come to the telephone right now. Asked her if she wants to make an appointment"? Gwen told Mrs. Heights and she made an appointment for five the next day. "Dawn", Gwen said as she walked to Jen's station, "she made one for five tomorrow afternoon. "And, you have Jen coming in around five fifteen". "That's all right", Dawn told Gwen, as she removed the cape from her customer. "Mrs. Heights will be a quick one. Just a shampoo and trim. Jen told me she might be a little late anyway". As Dawn walked her customer to the front, she couldn't believe three weeks had gone by that fast. She wonder how Mrs. Heights did on her vacation. And, really she didn't think she would be coming back after her last visit. "Well, this time it won't be like the last one", Dawn thought to herself as she walked back to her station and her next customer already sitting in the chair. "This time no playing around. The clippers and no attachment all over her head and she is on her way. That will give me some time to work with Jen on what to do with her hair". The next day, a Friday, was kind of slow because of the unexpected rain. Some of their customers called and canceled because they couldn't get out the house, or off from work. So, they just sat around watching the television and reading the magazines or newspapers. They even closed the shop and all went to lunch together, taking an hour and a half at that. It isn't that often you get a break like that. As five o'clock got closer Dawn watched for Mrs. Heights. She wanted to get her in the back so Carol could shampoo her hair, then she could get her trimmed and out the shop by five thirty. Then, she and Jen would have time to look through the magazines for something nice to fit her short hair. Dawn had let everyone go at four thirty, being the day continued to be slow. It was a little after five when Mrs. Heights arrived. "Hi Dawn", she announced as she entered and started removing her raincoat. "Just hang your coat on the pole", Dawn told her. "The dripping water won't matter, I have to wet mop the floor before going home anyway". With her coat hung Dawn walked her to the back room. "I'll be shampooing your hair", Dawn told. "Slow day because of the rain ..... So, I let the others go early. No since them stating and maybe getting caught here". Dawn noticed Mrs. Height's hair had not grown out the much in the three weeks. But, there was enough growth to try out her new clippers, the ones she purchased last week with the .00000 cutting head. It's going to shake her up some, but what the hell. With her hair washed they walked back to her station. As they approached it, Dawn changed her mind. "Here", she said pointing to her styling chair. "Let do your hair cut in the styling chair". Mrs. Height looked the chair over. It was smaller and tighter than the barber chair, the one Dawn always had her sit in for her hair cuts. But, she did not question her and sat in the chair. Dawn placed the cape in place around her neck, and begin towel drying her head when Jen walked in. She too had a rain coat on. "Just hang in on the pole", Dawn told her, too. "You remember Mrs. Heights", Dawn asked her. "She was here the last time you were". Jen looked at her, "Yes. How have you been? "How was your vacation"? Mrs. Heights turned her head toward Jen, "Fine, thank you. And, the vacation was wonderful. Lots of sun and the water was warm. We're thinking about going back in a few months". "I won't be long", Dawn said pointing to Mrs. Heights head. "Why don't you get a cup of coffee and a magazine". Jen shook her head, understanding and remembering the last time. She wondered why Mrs. Heights was there anyway, she hardly had any hair on her head. But, Dawn did tell her she liked her hair cut extremely short. And, she remember how Mrs. Heights reacted when Dawn begin pushing the clippers over her head. With her hair dried a best, with as much as she had, Dawn walked to the counter. She moved a few things around, hoping Mrs. Heights didn't expect anything. Dawn looked in the mirror at Mrs. Heights, "The same as last time? A quick pass with the clippers"! Mrs. Heights looked at Dawn as she moved her right hand over her short hair. "Yes. I don't think you could do anything else. Besides I like it at this length, as does Raymond". Dawn smiled, "Got her" she thought to herself. She grabbed her new clippers with the .00000 head, applied a little oil. She had used them earlier to buzz the neck on Donna. With the new clippers at her side Dawn walked to the back of the chair. "It's going to be easy in this chair", she commented to Mrs. Heights. "It is low and I don't have to move around. I can stand here, behind you, and pass the clippers over your head easier". Mrs. Heights just smiled and watched in the mirror as Dawn brought the clippers to her forehead. As she was about to move the clippers back over her head, Dawn knew it was going to work. Mrs. Heights had been out in the sun a lot on her vacation, and the sun did it's work by lighting it more. She would hardly notice the extra shortness given the natural white color of her hair. Dawn looked at Mrs. Heights in the mirror one last time. They smiled at each other, then Dawn slowly moved the clippers back over her head. Dawn watched the hair pile up as she moved the clippers backward, letting the pile fall to the floor behind the chair. Mrs. Heights was still watching as Dawn begin another pass with the clippers. "That strip you just cut looks shorter", she said. Dawn's heart jumped almost stopping. "No, not really", she answered hoping her lie would do it's thing. "You were out in the sun a lot, weren't you"! "Yes", Mrs. Heights replied, "a lot. Almost all day. Why"! "Well", Danw said still hoping, "the sun lighten the natural color of your hair more. You're lucking being out in it that much you didn't damage it more". Mrs. Heights slowly shook her head, understand what Dawn told her. By this time Dawn was make the fourth pass over her head. She looked the top over, Mrs. Heights looked almost bald. Dawn smiled more as she begin pushing the clippers up the back of her head. "Just a few more minutes", Dawn thought to herself as she placed the clippers in front of Mrs. Heights right ear. "Just a few more minutes", she told her self moving the clippers up and back over her ear. Another pass, and another, she was finished with the right side. As she looked in the mirror, at Mrs. Heights who's eyes were closed, Dawn noticed Jen eyes staring at Mrs. Heights head. She had almost a blank look in them. She sat motionless. Dawn noticed she was sitting almost on the edge of the chair. Dawn turned her attention back to finishing Mrs. Heights buzz. "Just four more passes", Dawn thought to herself. With the last one made she turned off the clippers, "There". Mrs. Heights eyes opened. She moved her head from side to side. Slowly she moved her left hand from under the cape, and stroked it over her head. "Ooooo", she moaned, "this feels better than the last time. You're sure you didn't cut my hair shorter"? Dawn smiled as she turned to face Mrs. Heights. "No", she answered. "If I went any shorter I would have to shave your head bald". With that Mrs. Heights eyes quickly opened. A smile popped on her face. "Really", she said to Dawn in a questioning voice. "Yes", Dawn replied as she stepped to the right side of the chair and started dusting her head. "Let me dust you up, then I'll give you a razor trim". Mrs. Heights relaxed in the chair, almost into a world of wonderment. Dawn placed the duster on the shelf. She walked to the barber chair. There was a winding sound, drawing both Mrs. Heights and Jen's attention to it. Dawn saw them in the mirror. Both had the same look on their face. Dawn decided to let the warm pile of lather to grow some. As she walked back to the styling chair and Mrs. Heights, she noticed Jen was breathing a little faster. Just like Mrs. Heights did the last time. She just smiled a Jen, "Just a little longer". Jen smiled back and knotted back she understood. When she got back to the chair Mrs. Heights still had that "wonderment" look in her eyes. This caused Dawn to close her eyes and think, "What if ....."! She took a deep breath and slowly dabbed a small amount of warm lather in front of Mrs. Heights right ear. She saw and heard her take a deep breath, her head rising quickly. Dawn closed her eyes again, "I wonder if ....."? Then, she took a little larger dabbed of lather and slowly begin spreading it up the right side of Mrs. Heights head. Slowly she spread it backward over the top of her right ear. Dawn looked in the mirror, Mrs. Heights still had her eyes closed. She took another deep breath, her head rising again. Dawn did not hesitate taking a much larger dab of lather and spreading over the back of her head and down her neck. Quickly she spread the lather over the left side of her head. With her left head with the last of the lather she slowly moved it to the top of Mrs. Heights head, when ..... Her eyes open. Mrs. Heights stared at herself in the mirror. Dawn stood still her heart slowly rising into her throat. Her left hand, with the warm lather almost hang from it, just a few inches from Mrs. Heights head. Slowly their eyes rose to met each other in the mirror. A lump filled Dawn's throat as she slowly lowered her left hand. When it made contact with Mrs. Heights head Dawn let it sit there, not doing anything. She looked in the mirror, looking straight at Mrs. Heights eyes. She tried to swollow but her mouth was dry. She closed her eye, taking a quick breath ..... "Caught", was all she could tell herself. Then, as she opened her eyes, ready to wipe the lather from Mrs. Heights head, she saw her slowly move her head up and down as telling her "YES". Dawn watched her a little more, feeling her head move under the hand. Dawn made a dry swollow and begin spreading the lather over the top of her head. As she walked to the shelf she tried to say something to Mrs. Heights, but couldn't. Or, was it she didn't want too. She grabbed the straight razor from the shelf and walked to the barber chair. Jen followed her with her eyes, her head. Her breathing was excitement, now. She was sitting on the edge of the chair, holding her body from falling with her hand holding the sides of the chair. She was slowly rocking in excitement. Dawn smiled as she sharpened the straight razor. Finished, the blade as sharp as she wanted it, Dawn walked back to Mrs. Heights. Her eyes opened wide in a watching way. Standing behind her Dawn placed her fingers on the top of her head pushing her head down, but not much. Mrs. Heights could still look in the mirror and see what was happening. Dawn placed the razor in the middle of the back of her head. Taking a carming breath she slowly shaved downward a little. Her eyes saw the smooth spot of skin. Dawn felt something strange come over her, she had never felt this before. She shaved the heads of her male clients and never felt this ..... this strange feeling. She placed the razor to the same place and shaved another strip. She looked in the mirror, Mrs. Heights' eyes were glazed. She was smiling. Her head rose as Dawn brought the razor back to her head. Dawn shaved another section, then another. Ever so often she would look in the mirror at Jen. She was still glued to the edge of the chair. Leaning forward as if she was waiting for the gun to rush to the chair and her turn. For some reason Dawn wanted to go "bang", to see if she would jump. But, she turned her attention back to Mrs. Heights. All she was going to do was give her a nice buzzing with her new clippers, with the .00000 head. Now she was shaving her head smooth, and Mrs. Heights was enjoying it. As was she ..... and Jen, too. She moved to the left. Placing the blade of the razor in the center of the back of her head, Dawn shaved from the center then down the side of her head. Slowly she placed the razor on top her her head and begin shaving another section. Dawn no longer looked in the mirror at Mrs. Heights. Even if she decided she wanted Dawn to stop it was too late. She would look like a crazy person. One that had run a foul of others. She knew Mrs. Heights didn't want that. She knew if she had wanted her to stop she wouldn't stop her. Her shaving strokes quicken. She begin checking with the tip of her fingers to make sure she was shaving her head smooth. When she started walking around the chair, to the other side, she notice Jen was almost standing. Her body was well off the chair. All she had to do was start walking ..... Or, run if she choose. They smiled at each other. Standing on the right side Dawn begin shaving from her forehead. Before beginning the third strip Dawn turned to Jen. She was standing off the chair. Her body was weak in a pleasing enjoyment way. Dawn raised her right hand and waived the straight razor in the air at Jen. She even blew her a little kiss with a smile. Jen unconsciously took a deep breath, her body shivered as her head moved saying "YES". Dawn turned back to Mrs. Heights head and finished shaving her smooth. Mrs. Heights didn't say a word when Dawn was finished. Dawn undid the cape and removed it. She got a warm cloth and begin wiping Mrs. Heights head. Dawn could not believe what she had just done. "Why", she asked herself, but there was no answer. She closed her eyes in disbelief, or was it in pleasure! "That feels good", Mrs. Heights voice spoke softly, causing Dawn to open her eyes. "Do you like it", Jen inquired surprisingly to Dawn. "Yes", Dawn asked before Mrs. Heights could answer. "Do you like it"? Mrs. Heights smile, moving her fingers up to her head then stroked it slowly. "Yes", she answered them. "But, I can't understand why I let you shave my head"! Dawn, herself confused, could not answer her, because she didn't understand why she did it. Why she took the chances she did. All she knew was each time she did something Mrs. Heights responded in a "YES ..... do it" way. She finished wiping her head, then she applied a sweet lotion. Wiping some of the oiliness Dawn then dusted her head with some sweet powder. She removed the cape and turned the chair from the mirror. Mrs. Heights got up and walked toward the customer seating area. She picked up her purse ..... "There will be no charge, Mrs. Heights", Dawn nervously told her. Jen walked up to her, raising her left hand, "May I". Mrs. Heights smiled, "Yes". Jen gently moved her finger tips over Mrs. Heights shaven head. Her body suddenly shivered. A chill ran up and down her spine. Her face became warm and turned a little red. Dawn stood at the desk, her throat dry ..... Her mind wondering what happened. Mrs. Heights reached for her rain coat, looking outside she said, "Won't need this". It had stopped raining, but when. Mrs. Heights bid them "Good night" and left the shop. Dawn and Jen stood staring at each other. Their eyes searching each other for something, when the door opened ..... "Dawn", came Mrs. Heights voice, "mind if I come back tomorrow morning for another shave? "I don't think I can shave my head myself, at least now. And, Andy ..... I am sure he will be very surprised when I get home, but I don't think I could trust him with a razor just yet". Dawn looked at her, wondering if she was hearing right. "Yes", she answered. "Just come in when you want. It won't take that much time. I'll use a safety razor that will be faster". Mrs. Heights again bid them "Good night" and left the shop, leaving Dawn and Jen still looking in each others eyes. This was to be the End, but it's not .....
