The Apache were the most feared tribe who bore the worst of the 19th century stereotypes of Native Americans. Geronimo was the most feared of the Apaches. When the government attempted to move his community onto a reservation in 1876, Geronimo began a military campaign against the United States which continued until 1886. During that year, he was arrested along with his 24 remaining warriors and sent to prison.
