I want to share with you some info and links I have collected for the Mosel area, where some of the finest wines in the world are produced, and some information for tourists, travelers which are good for the region in general. I hope you all enjoy browsing and reading here! Especially I want to tell you about a small Guest-House and Winery I love and always come back to! Not only because we are friends since 30 years or because I used to date their son :)) - no they do have the most excellent wine (mailorder too!) the best unsurpased hospitality and a sweet lady who cares for her guests and fixes the most delicious breakfast. Their wine is the best I have ever tasted, and it is made in-house, not in a huge wine-processing plant! Maybe that is really the big difference - it is pure and you can taste that! They run a small Family Guest-Pension, but nevertheless with them you are really cared for well. Their wine prices are more than civil too - running from DM 5.00 to approx. DM 15.00 (details later) per bottle plus postage! Still very affordable compared to other wines (and you don't even know where these come from - a huge winery that mixes ALL wines of the area like the one in Bernkastel) or rather home brewed like here! :)) mmmhhh .. delicious!
Their Pension is directly located at the Mosel river, with only a street between their house and the river. The wine mountains around, the nearby fabulous cities of Traben-Trarbach, Cochem and Bernkastel-Kues offer more than one can take in scenery, wines, and fun. Whenever I go there all my worries fall off my shoulders, it has that effect on you. It seems like the world stands still here .. it never changed since I was there the first time. :)
The name of the Family is Muellen, and they also do have excellent smoked fish! :) They fish themselves and smoke the fish themselves too. It is a small family business, and times have been hard, but I am sure whoever finds their way to Moselstrasse 86 in Kroev - will NOT regret it! Clean rooms with shower, excellent breakfast, even better wine and the most beautiful sites await you! You will be most welcome there or if you wish to order wine, I am sure they will accommodate you. I get wine from there whenever I can - or have it sent by mail. They are not speaking English though! For all US tourists or people from other Countries, you might want to brush up on your German a bit. :))
I would welcome any feedback from people who have visited the Muellen Family! Just to hear how you liked it. I think it is a gorgeous spot to be in this world - even more on vacation. Up to today I feel calm, quaint and enchantet when I get there .. it is a very special place! :)
