Energy 108 Month-by-Month Play

January
To start the new year, Toni Braxton's "Unbreak my heart" takes over from
En Vogue "Dont' let go" for #1 with Jocelyn Enriquez inside the top 3.
Toni Braxton holds on top throughout the month. In the meantime, CJ Bolland
snuck up to #3 being given the armand van heldon treatment on "sugar is
sweeter". Ginuwine's "Pony" made #4 with Madonna also vaulting itno the
top 3 with the miami remix of "Don't cry for me Argentina" Inside the
top 10, BBE held on in there after peaking at #7, ironicly with "7 days and
1 week" Blackstreet's "No diggity" a former #1 from last year did the
impossible and leaped back into the top 10. And the spice mania was
starting up as "Wannabe" makes #2. It would do better though later on in
the year.

February
Toni Braxton spend one more week at #1, for a total of 5 weeks on top. She
succumbs to Madonna's "Don't cry for me Argentina". But surprisingly after
leapfrogging over the spice girls, Madonna is replaced by "Wannabe" the
following week. The Spice Girls hold on top for the end of the month. In
the meantime, the Mighty Dub Katz reaches #4, Jamiroquai's first hit,
"Virtual Insanity" peaks at #4 and as the month drew to a close the
Cardigans being given the remix treatment by Todd Terry gets to #4 with
Mark Morrison getting to #3. The latter 2 will go on to be #1's later.

March
It's the month of the Juno and BKS win the juno for best dance act fending
off Temperance, Emjay and PJ. Also Carlos Morgan wins the juno for best
soul recording. Meanwhile Mark Morrison topples the Spice Girls as a former
UK #1 replaces another.
In could have been 3 consecutive former UK #1's but Mark Morrison denied
U2's "Discotheque" for #1. Mark Morrison holds on for 3 weeks before being
ousted by the Blackout allstars and "I like it" But a big turnabout, partly
due the Cardigans being in town knocks off the Blackout Allstars for topspot
after 24 weeks on the chart! In that time, freak nasty leapt into the top 3
and Aaliyah jumped into the top 5, including the biggest ever jump on the
chart 49 to 7 in just one week, all it didn't do was make #1.

April
Another surprise Mark Morrison spends a 4th week at #1 but at the same time
White Town leapt from 33 to 2 and consequently replaced the Mack daddy for
#1. Love fool fell from 1 to 8 btw, biggest fall from the top since my first
ever chart saw La bouche fall from grace to #9 with "Sweet Dreams" back in
1994. White Town completes the month at #1 leaving the Spice Girls "Say
you'll be there" at #2, Freak Nasty's "Da Dip" also #2, Prodigy's
"Firestarter" at #3 and Puff Daddy's "Can't nobody hold me down" at #3 in
their wake.

May
White Town continue on at #1 but run into Biggie! Who steals the top
jumping from 17 to 1. It's not the biggest jump ever, that feat belongs to
Madonna who did it with "Secret (rmx)" in 1994. But it only holds on to #1
for 1 week, well for now, as Hanson, a group of 14 year olds (sick?)
"mmmbop" to #1. They spend 2 weeks on top before Biggie gets the #1 back.
In amongst the chaos, Le click quietly moved up to #2 with "Call me" and
Savage Garden bounced around the chart before peaking at #3 with "I want
you". Puff Daddy held on nicely in the top 5 with "Can't nobody hold me
down"

June
Notorious BIG spent the whole month at #1, making 6 weeks out of 8 at #1.
The reason for all the popularity is that he was murdered this year.
Biggie denied a whole bunch of songs including a tribute to him by Puff
Daddy and Faith Evans and 112 which samples the old Police song "Every
breath you take" called "I'll be missing you" To date it was at #3. Also
denied Le click who could only spend 2 weeks at #2. Jocelyn Enriquez leapt
from 8 to 2, but was denied this month, maybe next month? in the background,
"mmmbop" held on in the top 5, Robin's "Do you know what it takes" and Daft
punk's "da funk" saw the top 5.
