Softball
Now... having said that, we have yet to win the playoff championship... but.... I can say with 100 % certainty that there is no other team in the league that can have as much fun as us when we are out on the field, or on the bleachers cheering on another team! (now some of this enthusiasm comes via the beer supply available in the back of Mike's van... but that's just between you and me. )
The second team, is part of the Social Services league where different agencies play against eachother "in fun". This team has won many championships in years past (none since I joined, but that has nothing to do with me -- thats my story and I'm sticking to it ! )
Neither team is too serious about the game, coming out to have fun, whether we win or lose,... and both teams really look forward to the after-game festivities. Beer and BBQ wings with friends at an outdoor patio on a summer's night... this is what summer's are made of !
One of my favourite things about spring is that it is the start of the softball season. In the last few years, I have come enjoy the season for more than just because it represents the melting of the snow.
I play in two seperate softball leagues, both co-ed. I have been on the "Brew Jays", the Bell Canada league, for about 7 or 8 years now and LOVE it ! It is purely recreational, but this is a team that has been through several evolutions and is currently playing the best its ever has.
Batting is always fun...especially when I get to hit it over the head of a smart-ass guy who thinks "Move the infield in...its a girl at bat"
I play third base, and more times than not, plays are rather routine... except when the shortstop decides to interfere and deflect the ball ... at which point I say " To hell with the catch, I'm saving my face ! "
Without the interference, I'm pretty casual about my work...
and I've been told I've got a "man's" arm (!?!?!)...
All in all, I go out because I love the damn game... even if there are times when you've gotta laugh... or else you cry...
