St. Lucia is a lush, tropical island located in the South-Eastern Caribbean between Martinique to the North, St. Vincent to the South and Barbados to the North East. Click here to see a map. I'm extremely fortunate in that St. Lucia is my maternal homeland - of all the places that my mom could've been from, WOW! My ancestors' story is an interesting one, too: they moved to St. Lucia from Versailles, France in the early 1600's, when Louis XIV (le Roi Soleil) granted them the land. My extended family has lived there ever since, at first producing sugar and cocoa for export, and then developing commercial ventures. I'm lucky enough to have acquired my St. Lucian citizenship so that I can retire there at some point. Anyhow, if you are ever looking to take a vacation to the Caribbean, check out St. Lucia - the natural beauty of this island never fails to amaze me.
