Occupation: YWCA Aquatics

Abstract:

Red just recently finisher her sixth and final year at Michigan Technological University. Her degree is in Social sciences, but she’s studied Biomedical Engineering, music, organizational behavior, sociology, and fraternity life on campus over the past years. Red was a fairly active member of the student body and, even after leaving the university, is still too well known for her own good. She now resides in Minneapolis, MN living the life of an independent urban female.

Mu Beta Psi, National Honorary Musical Fraternity consumes a huge portion of her time – so much so that she considers the Fraternity her life. Mu Beta Psi entered into the picture back in the Winter of 1998/1999 when Red decided to pledge the active music group. Since then, she’s held numerous positions on the chapter and national level including Chapter President (2002-2003) and the National Editor of The Clef (2001-2004). She now has plans of becoming active once again in the Alumni Association, though these plans have been put on the backburner during this period of transition.

Many say that there are two sides to Red. One former co-worker, Tigerlily, even went so far to say there are “Night-time Naughty Red” and “Day-time Girl Scout Red”. As a lifetime member of Girl Scouts, Red learned to make her own decisions in life and enjoy whatever she loved. This may mean that while she enjoys knitting, crocheting, gardening, hiking, canoeing, and teaching – Red also enjoys the bar scene and night-life. At times the two combine and you can find her curled up in a chair with her latest knitting project drinking an ice cold Labatt Blue or Canadian Ale.

Underlying everything you see Red do you will find music. Take a look at her current collection by clicking here. Thanks to her parents erratic and eclectic musical tastes, Red grew up in an environment where one moment she’d be hearing Diana Ross and the Supremes and Dave van Ronk the next. Music lessons began with piano at an early age only to spread to choirs, clarinet, percussion, and musical theatre later in life. Most of her training has been in ragtime, boogie, and Dixieland styles. She’s performed with the infamous Huskies Pep Band and the now defunct Basin Street Blues Brothers. Red also has a great love for North American traditional folk songs and has compiled a sing-a-long book for use at the Scout Camps she works for.

In August 2003, Red began dating her longtime friend and confidant. They are able to tolerate and even enjoy one another’s geeky tendencies, something that never happened for either of them before. The couple is blissfully happy as they both prepare to continue their lives together in the Cities.
