Princess Diana was 20 years old woman when she married Prince Charles and became the wife of the future King Of England. Along with millions of people around the world I watched her wedding. We saw her on TV as she left the hospital to bring her children home. She was young, beautiful and but unprepared for what lay ahead of her. She gave the British monarchy two heirs to the throne within a few years of her marriage and everyone thought she had it all. She was beautiful, young and for all of that very unprepared for her life as royalty. We all dream of being a princess and finding our prince, but we forget that we are only human and fairy tales are just that. It's easy to be critical when you're not the person in the spotlight. The world loved to see what clothes she would be wearing or how she had done her hair. She was perceived as being an airhead that had no real opinions or cared for anyone but herself. After her divorce from Prince Charles, and even before, she showed that this was not true. Her caring way with AIDS patients, war victims and even her interest in banning land mines showed the world a very different side of the princess. Some think it was for the publicity, I think otherwise. There was no need to put herself in the type of danger she did. She did it because she cared. The sick, the disadvantaged and often the forgotten gained because she used her name to bring their plight to the attention of the world. Yes she used the press in this manner but they were always eager to catch a picture of her whereever she was. Because of this she was hounded by the press in her private life. Not the proper press but the paparazzi who often were paid thousands of dollars for private pictures of Diana. This contributed to her death in Paris.

As a mother my heart goes out to her young sons, William and Henry. She insisted that they be raised as normally as possible, a hard thing to do when someone is in the public eye as they are.
