I applaud your dedication in continually updating and improving your web page. You chose the best medium to have the proverbs and other cultural pieces presented. We can always visit to rehearse and re-acquainted with these seemingly disappearing parts of our heritage. Thank you. I read with dismay some of the comments made about our island nation in the guestbook. The disappointment is there and it's clear, however subtle it is remarked. I say I'm dismayed maybe because I've yet to contribute to the "cause". But believe me, if I were a man living in Palau right now I would have done something. We've been duped too long to rely on western ways to correct our leaders. How many bright eyed, educated, and ambitious Palauans have approached you with yet another petition seeking ways to correct the wrong? And sooner or later the same person become part of the problem having used your vote to get there? Hell, I've seen too many in my days and we still have the same pathetic ways of doing business. There is no question about it.."Prostitution is a problem." On the other hand, does declaring war on it necessarily solve anything? To what extent shall we combat it. What available resources do we have?, Consider the opportunity cost of employing such r sources in this war?, the winners and the losers? For sure, the losers are You and Me (tax payers), the winners--prostitution industry for thier prices will rise as well as their customers. Why? Because they will be forced to provide a quality service--th t is cost added. This makes it fairly attractive to potential sex industries to come to Palau....Will we stop them? How & With what? Don't forget that these industruies are very well connected and protected for they always have what Palauans like the most in life...GREEN$$$$ !! The problem lies not with the Senators,Presidents, Governors, Chinese, Philippinos, etc..It's the people, the palauns, it's you and me. We have responsibilies to fulfill as citizens of a civil and democratic society. These responsibilities requires that w work together and hard we shall work. If you can sing our National Anthem and recite our Preamble with no difficulty then it's a starter. However, if it's the other way around, then you need to start organizing your priorities.
