MERRY CHRISTMAS
WHY IS THE X IN XMAS?
The X in Xmas stands for the Greek
letter"Chi", the first letter in the Greek
word for Christ.Over time, the letter "X"
came to stand for the name of Christ.
The practice gained very wide usage
in the mass media during the twentieth
century, but not as many erroneously believe,
because of any squeamishness about usent the
word "Christmas". Often, Xmas simply fits
better in a Headline.
THE CHRISTMAS ROSE
A legend surrounds the origin of the
Christmas Rose: Once there was a young
girl who wanted to worship the baby
Jesus, but felt she could not
because she had no present.
Saddened, the girl began to cry;
as her tears fell to the ground,
they created a bush bearing a
beautiful white rose, which she
gave to the Holy Infant.
STARS
The Star of Bethlehem, often
found at the top of a
Christmas tree or on a
plate of Christmas cookies, is
strictly Christian in origin.
The nature of the star
mentioned in the Bible
remains a mystery.
