Lake Mangamahoe with mount Egmont standing proudly in the back ground. This lake is only 1/4 of a mile from the main road. Full of wild life,  this lake is quite large and this is just the begining of  it. A beautiful spot with nothing to do except take it all in and listen to the sounds of birds. Fantasic spot to just sit and relax and enjoy the scenery. Plenty of bush walks around the lake and into the forests as well. Great place for a picnic or a good long walk.
Mount Egmont standing at 8,261 ft  above sea level is now a dormant volcano which last erupted in 1775. Who knows maybe its just waiting. Plenty of native bush walks both around and up the mount. The ski feilds are popular in the winter and nowdays the snow seems to last alot longer sometimes going into summer.
All the way into New Plmouth which is one of the main centers of Taranaki, this mountain is visible just about from any road. It is a fantasic site to see mount Egmont towering up from the Taranaki plains. New Plymouth also has Pukekura park, another popular spot with coloured fountains and water falls, right in the heart of the city. Nice lake in there as well.
You can drive all the way around this mountain and see some of the best scenery available anywhere. We always try and visit this area at least twice a year. It is very hard to take a bad photograph of this mountain, its just so beautiful with all its glory.
