Den Meeting Report: At November 17th meeting the scouts completed their FITNESS badge requirements (a specific badge required for WEBELOS) as well as a number of additional knowledge requirements for WEBELOS advancement. (See pages 415-425 for a list and explanation of these requirements.) Each boy adeptly was able to explain the meaning of the WEBELOS badge and point out three special parts of the WEBELOS uniform.
At our December 1st meeting, Freddie's dad treated the scout to a well-thought out and enjoyable CRAFTMAN activity. Mr. G. and the scouts went through tool safety with detail and learned how to use all the tools necessary to build a bird house. Each scout completed a bird house during the 2+hour meeting, sawing all the wood, sanding, filing, clamping, nailing, etc. Mr. G: Sonny and I thank you for the day off, you did a great job and the boys unanimously voted your meeting the best so far! The entire den is looking forward to part 2, next month.
Our December 15th meeting was held at Westmoreland Sanctuary where Lisa, the resident geology expert worked with the scouts on their GEOLOGIST badge. It was very clear that many scouts took our suggestion to read pages 349 through 368 of their WEBELOS book in preparation for the meeting. Lisa was impressed with the scout's knowledge of such things as hoe mountains are formed, the various layers of the earth and their ideas (implemented and tested with building blocks) on how to make buildings earthquake resistant! On the way back home some of the boys and I reviewed the requirements on page 368 and determined that six out of the seven requirements were met (only five were needed) so each scout has earned his GEOLOGIST badge! Thanks to Lisa and Steve at Westmoreland. Great work scouts!
SPECIAL NOTE: Congratulations to Steven for earning his BOBCAT badge, which was awarded at a ceremony held at the December 7th Pack meeting. Steven has shown himself to be a good scout, active in den and pack activities and a great addition to Den 3! Steven has completed his good turn and is now a full fledged BOBCAT, working towards WEBELOS with the rest of the den! Great work Steven, great to have you aboard!

Upcoming Den Meetings: We will be planning two scheduled den meeting per month for January through June and possibly a July and an August meeting. These meeting will be in addition to certain pack and council activities that are either being planned or are currently scheduled. Our Den Calendar will be updated update and notices and information on meeting and events will be sent by e-mail.

PARENTS' MEETING Before continuing with our den meetings, we will schedule our second parent's meeting for an evening in early January. We plan to discuss advancement requirements as well as possible projects for the upcoming six months. Time and place to follow by e-mail.

21st Annual BOWL-O-REE Great job by Den 3. We were the only den that had every member present! A good turn was done by all (and some parents/siblings) raising funds for special needs scouts while having a ton-of-fun! Thanks to all!

REMINDER Christmas vacation is a good time to work on badges. As was set out in last month's newsletter, there are twenty WEBELOS badges that may be earned by the time that a scout bridges to boy scouts in February, 2003. Not all badges nor all requirements for each badge can be completed at den or pack meetings. Certain badges lend themselves to being earned at home. Artist (p.86) and Traveler (p.144) may be worked on at home when circumstances and time permit. Other possibilities for home are Family Member (p. 208) and Sportsman (p. 78). Also, if your scout is a member of the St. Patrick's School Band or otherwise takes music lessons, he may earn Showman (p. 118) by completing the music requirements (p. 142). Consider working on one or more of these with your scout!

Yours in Scouting,
Sonny and Joe
