December 2001 Den Meeting Report: At November 17th meeting the scouts completed their FITNESS badge requirements (a specific badge required for WEBELOS) as well as a number of additional knowledge requirements for WEBELOS advancement. (See pages 415-425 for a list and explanation of these requirements.) Each boy adeptly was able to explain the meaning of the WEBELOS badge and point out three special parts of the WEBELOS uniform. Upcoming Den
Meetings: We will be planning two scheduled den meeting per month for January through June and possibly a July and an August meeting. These meeting will be in addition to certain pack and council activities that are either being planned or are currently scheduled. Our Den Calendar will be updated update and notices and information on meeting and events will be sent by e-mail. PARENTS' MEETING Before continuing with our den meetings, we will schedule our second parent's meeting for an evening in early January. We plan to discuss advancement requirements as well as possible projects for the upcoming six months. Time and place to follow by e-mail. 21st Annual BOWL-O-REE Great job by Den 3. We were the only den that had every member present! A good turn was done by all (and some parents/siblings) raising funds for special needs scouts while having a ton-of-fun! Thanks to all! REMINDER Christmas vacation is a good time to work on badges. As was set out in last month's newsletter, there are twenty WEBELOS badges that may be earned by the time that a scout bridges to boy scouts in February, 2003. Not all badges nor all requirements for each badge can be completed at den or pack meetings. Certain badges lend themselves to being earned at home. Artist (p.86) and Traveler (p.144) may be worked on at home when circumstances and time permit. Other possibilities for home are Family Member (p. 208) and Sportsman (p. 78). Also, if your scout is a member of the St. Patrick's School Band or otherwise takes music lessons, he may earn Showman (p. 118) by completing the music requirements (p. 142). Consider working on one or more of these with your scout! Yours in Scouting,Sonny and Joe |
