Cape Town

Just after we arrived in Cape Town, we left for Fancourt Golf Estate & Resort in George in the Southern Cape. We spent 4 days there staying on the resort with our friends Wayne & Belinda. Here is Vanessa on the tee of the 17th hole of the Montaque course. It is a replica of the 12th hole at Augusta National (for those who know what we are talking about). The resort has 2 courses and is the home course of Ernie Els.
After we returned from Fancourt, we left for a couple of days of water-skiing at Clanwilliam Dam in the Western Cape. Here we get Wayne's boat ready for the first ski of the weekend.

Here is Vanessa trying to stay dry. After getting of to a slow start, she really looked comfortable on the skis. She's still not comfortable enough to give it a go on one ski.
My turn on the skis. Although it was lots of fun, we quickly learned that we weren't fit enough for this sport. The next morning we could hardly move, since almost all our muscles were in pain.
Jack and I in the back of Wayne's boat on our way back the slipway where we launched the boat. It was such a great feeling to sit in the warm sun on the back of the boat while thinking of the cold weather back in Chicago!
After a week in South Africa, we finally managed to go to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town. Here we are with Table Mountain in the background.
Vanessa having calamari at the Quay Four restaurant in the Waterfront. We had been talking about this meal for months and it was exactly like we thought it would be, sitting in the sun, having a great seafood meal and enjoying some good local beers.
Vanessa strolling down the beach at Blouberg Strand with a ice cream in hand. Although it looks great (and it definitely is), that water is freezing!
This is one of our favorite hangout spots in Cape Town. It's the Blue Peter Hotel in Blouberg Strand. It has a big lawn in front and one can sit there for hours sipping sundowners and watch the beautiful sunsets.
And this is the view from the lawn at the Blue Peter Hotel. It's right on the sea and this is the kind of sunsets one can expect to see. This really makes us homesick!
