Summer

Here are our pictures from summer in Chicago.

September 26 - Towards the end of the summer, Henk showed some interest in playing golf.  He purchased some golf equipment and after several sessions on the driving range, he was ready to play on a real golf course.  For several weeks, we played on Wednesday mornings before work, teeing off as soon as it was light enough to play.
September 08 - Vanessa and I tried to go camping one more time before the summer was over.  We chose a camp site close by and went to Lake Kegonsa State Park, just south of Madison, Wisconsin.  During our first night, a violent thunderstorm moved through he area, and we were forced to stay in our tent the whole evening.  The next morning we went for a hike and when we returned to our campsite, decided that it was too muddy after the rain of the previous night, that we packed up and went back home.
August 25 - Our company held it's annual picnic on a farm outside Chicago.  Here is Alyssa on the trailer before the tractor hay ride. She has a scarf around her neck, which was provided by our company, so that we look like we work on the farm.
Alyssa is introduced to a rabbit.  She wanted to pat the rabbit, but at that age their control over their hands are not very good and we had to prevent her from grabbing the poor rabbit to firmly by the hair!
August 16 - Vanessa has not played golf since Alyssa was born in October 2000.  Further more, Vanessa has not left Alyssa in the care of other people ever up to this point.  With Alyssa being 10 months old, I convinced Vanessa to leave Alyssa with our friend Malie for a couple of hours, so that we could play some golf.  Vanessa was very acceptable to the suggestion, although I knew it was going to be difficult for her.  Needless to say, Vanessa was fine during this time, even playing a very good 44 strokes over 9 holes (par 35).  Vanessa did not want to have a drink afterwards, and wanted to go straight back to Alyssa, whom, by the way, did not even seem to realize we were gone!
August 11 - During the summer, Eugene & Susan moved into a new house (something they seem to do every summer).  The house had a nice deck at the back and we knew it was agreat place to have numerous braai's.  Here is Eugene & Henk on the deck with the weber, ready for another braai.
July 27 - 29 - A few friends went camping again over the weekend, this time at Silver Lake State Park in Michigan.  The state park is well known for it's huge sand dunes and the fact that people can drive on them.  Luckily all of us had 4 wheel drive vehicles (all Jeep Grand Cherokee's, ironically), so everybody could join in the fun and we sure had a lot.  I surely had the time of my life.
July 24 - Some people from work arrange an evening at Ravinia, an outdoor music festival.  That night we listened to the Buena Vista Social Club.  Here is Vanessa & Alyssa on the lawn.
July 4 - A group of friends decided to view the fourth of July fireworks from a boat on Lake Michigan.  Before the boat's departure, we all met at Navy Pier.  Here is a picture of Alyssa before the boat trip.
Alyssa and I inside the boat.
This picture of Chicago's skyline, was taken from the boat.
A few hours later we witnessed a beautiful sunset.  Here's another picture of Chicago's skyline.  After dark, we were entertained with a fireworks display, which was fired from a barge in the harbor.  Being on a bout ourselves, meant that we were very close to the fireworks.
June 8 -10 - We went camping for the first time this summer at the Spook Cave campground in McGregor, Iowa.  We went with Eugene & Susan, as well as Henk & Malie.  Click on the link in the navigation bar on the left to see more pictures of Spook Cave.
