GranTurismo 2 FAQ and Car List

GT2 Forum/Web Edition
Please do not copy this list and put it on your website without my permission! I want credit for my work you know. Also, please note that I am not to be held responsible for any mistakes in here. This was originally made for GT2X and putting this list on your website constitutes plagarism! Thanks!

Q. Is GranTurismo 2 (GT2) for PSX1 or 2?

A. It will be for the PSX1 platform.

Q. What is the OFFICIAL release date for GT2?

A. There is currently a confirmed release date for the USA as December 8th, however that date will most likely not be met. A definite date is named for Japan however, and the confirmed date there is December 11.

Q. Can I pick what kind of tires I want for my car at
the tuning screen?

A. Yes. You can pick size and tread type.

Q. What's the dirt on the new tracks?

A. Check the track list below to see a small listing of
confirmed tracks.

Q. Will there be custom wheels in GT2?

A. ABSOLUTELY! Enkei was rumoured for a long time, and
recently we got confirmation by way of an official SCEI GT2 video
and website. The Enkei dealer had 9 wheels in stock for that
particular size and car.

Q. Will there be weather effects in GT2?

A. As far as most people know, the GT2 forecast calls
for sunny skies with a slight overcast during the afternoon.
During the evening hours weather will be severe clear as the air
industry calls it.

Q. Can GT2 be linked via link cable?

A. No. The graphics would take a major blow, and the
link cable never sold very well anyway. Besides, would your
friend really bring an extra TV, PSX and GT disc over to your
house? Wait. If you're anything like me, you would

Q. There will be damage in GT2, right?

A. Damage in GT2 will be limited to PHYSICAL damage and minimal visual damage. The visual damage will consist of bent tires and the like.

Q. What are the new racing modes in GT2?

A. Rally, Hillclimb, and Drag mode. Hillclimbing is a
race that is raced uphill. Drag racing is a straight race for 1/4
mile. Rallying is racing under extreme road and weather
conditions.

Q. Will all cars be able to race rally mode?

A. By all means, yes. Honda Beats have been seen on the
rally track, as well as the Daihatsu Storia, Lancia Delta
Integrale, Subaru Impreza Rallier, and Mitsubishi Lancer Rallier.
However, you will most likely have to modify your car for rally
racing, which means that you will not be able to just buy a car
and joy ride on the dirt.

Q. Will there be PocketStation support?

A. Some say yes, most say no. The PocketStation isn't
coming to the USA anyway.

Q. Can I use my memory card from GT1 in GT2?

A. Polyphony has revealed that an existing B class
license from a memory card in GT1 will QUALIFY you to get a B
license. A and IA licenses will require the tests to be taken
over again. We cannot confirm any other backwards compatibility.

Q. Are classic cars going to make the cut into GT2?

A. Yes. Videos, interviews, magazines, screenshots, and
official SCEI commentary confirm this.

Q. How come Porsche and Ferrari aren't in GT2?

A. Licensing conflictions do not allow Porsches or Ferraris to be in GT2. However, RUF, a famous Porsche tuner, will be in GT2, and the following racing teams and cars will be in GT2: Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, and McLaren.

Q. Will SUVs and Trucks appear in GT2?

A. Yes. The SUVs in GT2 will be no larger than the size of a Wrangler. Confirmed
confirmed SUVs include the Terios, Feroza, Forester and Pajero Mini. The most
unlikely SUV in GT2 is the Suzuki Escudo Rallier. It features a 995PS
engine!

Q. How many discs will be included in the GT2 package?

A. Two discs have been confirmed. One will be arcade mode, another will be Simulation mode.

Q. What kind of controllers will I be able to use?

A. The JogCon and NegCon controllers will be compatible
with GT2, as well as the more traditional digital and dual shock
pads. GT2 will also support steering wheels.

Q. Why aren't Australian cars in GT2?

A. Well, it seems that Sony has decided to only use
American and European Fords and GMs. There is talk of a local
Australian disc that has Holdens, HSVs, and Australian Fords, but
this remains only talk and is not confirmed.

Q. The music in GT2 will be different right?

A. Yes. See the confirmed musicians list below.

Q. How many cars in all?

A. More than 599 grades of cars! Unbelievable, eh? Well,
there are roughly 430 confirmed grades of cars, making ~160 prize
cars...

Q. Will there be a hi-res mode?

A. Yes. Polyphony developers are unanimously agreeing that your breath will be taken away by it.

Q. How many license tests will there be in GT2?

A. Over 60.

Q. Well, I am not good at the license tests and with
60 I think it will be too hard! Is Sony going to include help for
people like me?

A. Yes. They are devising some type of help on license
tests just in case you cant pass them after trying a bazillion
times.

Q. Where can I get the GT2 Demo?

A. Issue 3.3 of Playstation Underground (1.800.983.SONY), Pizza Hut Demo Disc #2,
Winter 1999 Underground Jampack, or Dec. 1999 issue of OPM.

Q. What is that gauge near the tachometer?

A. That is a turbo pressure gauge. It measures pressure
in bars.
