Q. Is GranTurismo 3 A-spec for the PSX or PS2?
A. GT3 has been developed for the PS2, and for the PS2 only. It is highly unlikely that we will ever see another GT for the PSX. GT3 will come on one DVD disc.
A. Yes.
A. USA: April/May 2001 (est.); Japan: April 2001; Europe: May 2001(est.); Australia: May 2001 (est.)
A. So PD staff could ensure the quality of the game, model in new cars that were announced or released just this year, and tweak some areas in the software/gameplay elements of the game.
A. Before the game's name was changed to GT3, GT2000 was supposed to be a sort of half-baked sequel to GT2 as it was going to be heavily based on it. However, evidence shows that GT3 will be a true sequel to GT2, and will no doubt be packed with many little suprises!
A. Fear not, this is not a glitch in GT3 or the PS2 hardware. Camcorders record at a different framerate than TVs display, and so taped on-screen demos will show the bottom portion of a television screen slower than the top portion. The result is a wheel that looks to be cut in half.
A. Yes. Expect to see more realistic wheel rotation and a greater speed feeling. Also, expect to see the scenery blur as you go past it.
A. Yes. The third build of GT3 has shown antialiasing. There should be a minimal amount of jagged edges in the finished product.
A. The demos shown at trade shows have timers on them so gamers won't spend an excessively long time playing the demo and someone else will have a chance to play. All shots with timers on the bottom were regular racing and not license tests.
A. There will be changing weather conditions (fog, sunlight, clouds, and rain) in GT3. Evidence supports that the time of day will shift from race to race, however, there is no evidence as to whether the game will do it automatically or whether the user will be able to control this function.
A. While these are just rumours, Kazunori Yamauchi himself made a comment to the extent of "I thought of including these because I didn't think the game would sell by itself" and hence there seems to be a possibility of this rumour being true. To make a good prediction though, one has to be closer to the release date of GT3.
A. Apparently, at the last moment, iLINK capabilities were added to GT3. Six players can now participate in a race through the use of three PS2s and three TVs connected via Firewire. The computer AI will fill in for any number of players less than six so that the total of cars on the track will always be six.
A. Yes, it is definitely possible and extremely likely.
A. Specific bands have not yet been confirmed for GT3, but the soundtrack is said to be more updated than that of GT2 (for what it's worth, Motley Crue's "Kick Start My Heart" was the music track playing at the SF Auto Show demo). Users will be able to select up to five music tracks to play during a race. Wouldn't this be nice for endurance races?
A. Kazunori Yamauchi has said in an interview that for the first time players can have open cars (such as convertibles with open tops). Their inclusion in GT3 is almost a given, but there's still a slight chance that there might not be enough time to prepare for the new feature.
A. As far as open-topped cars go, it is still undetermined if they will appear in GT3 or if they will retain their tops. This is for sure, however: even in the closed cars, the player will be able to see the driver's helmet at times.
A. Yes. The aim of the new AI engine is to be more realistic than ever. Yamauchi aims to provide a degree of realism so high that it would be likened to racing another real person. A driver you cut off may drive in a more agressive manner and ram you back, for instance. He may also get nervous the next time you come near him and make a mistake while driving.
A. No. The amount of races and race series should remain about the same, regardless if the old tracks are included or not.
A. No.
A. There is no evidence to support this feature at the moment. However, some other high-profile games are scheduled to include a feature akin to this, so the market is right.
A. YES! Thank goodness! In fact, there will be MORE license tests than in GT2 that will push your driving skills to the limit and make you that much better at driving.
A. Many exciting things! First, the names of tracks appear in all different places, and the letters are jumbled about. Some specs of your car are scrolled back and forth and fade in and out. You may notice a large grey or black gauge behind your car. This is because any time you scroll to a different car on the selection screen, a sound byte of your car revving up plays in the background. The grey gauge is a graphic accompaniment to that sound. At the top of the screen, footage of cars racing plays. PD is working on a feature to replace this footage with footage of your specific car in real life.
Yes. Probably using the Analog sticks, you can zoom in and out of your car to check out various features of the car in detail, such as brakes, wheels, tyres, badging, and door latches.
A. These screenshots where taken at the second beta stage, where gauges had not been calibrated yet. They were set to read to full power until they had been calibrated. Since then, the gauges have been calibrated.
A. You'll definitely be able to play GT3 in widescreen format if you choose to do so.
A. Yes. GT3 will take full advantage of the PS2's advanced audio capabilities. Sounds should be clearer this time around, and you should be able to differentiate between sounds of different cars in replay mode.
A. Yes. They should be even more realistic now. Additionally, the tire sounds have been redone to give a more realistic feel as well.
A. The traditional GT gauges will be present when you've got the chase view on. The new dashboard-look gauges will be displayed only when in the in-car view. Recent photos taken at a GT3 sound recording session indicate that all car manufacturers may have their own dashboards, and possibly fully animated cockpits with steering wheels and such. The cockpits and manufacturer-specific gauges are very big maybes, however.
A. Yes, all controllers and peripherals should be compatible with PS2, with the exception of the Gameshark and Dexdrive. However, GT3 will not support the use of PSX memory cards other than to load GT2 license data from them (Data Transfer). The removal of Gameshark capabilities is a downer, but one can hope that Interact will come out with a new version of Gameshark or cheat utility for PS2. Dexdrives don't accept the 8MB PS2 Memory Cards and hence wouldn't be compatible with neither PS2 nor GT3. Any Dexdrive for PS2, however, should be compatible with PSX memory cards as well.
A. Only the licenses. Expect the Data Transfer mode to be similar to that in GT2.
A. It should be able to accomodate a fair bit more cars than what we're used to. At least 150-200 garage spaces should be seen.
Q. How will the DualShock 2 impact GT3?
A. GT3 will be fully compatible with the DualShock 2 controller. More precise braking and acceleration control will be possible with the 256 levels of sensitivity in GT3.
[b]A. The wheel, called the GT Force, is a direct PS2 port of the Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP wheel. The wheel has force feedback, but no clutch pedal. It is believed that the wheel has two shifter buttons (one on each opposite spoke of the wheel rather than paddle shifters or a gear shift lever), and it seems that it is Logitech's highest-quality wheel to date. The PC version of the wheel sells for $99.95 US. The USB wheel should be priced at approximately that price. GT logos will be on the centre cap of the steering wheel as well as on the bottom spoke.
Q: Is it true that a clutch may be incorporated into GT3?
A: Yes. Yamauchi and his team were thinking of using it in GT2, but were unhappy with the end product and couldn't reprogram the function due to time constraints. Yamauchi has hinted at the clutch problems being worked out and thus being included in GT3, and that means we'll probably see some sort of clutch function in the game.
A. Yes.
A. That's still up in the air at the moment. Most cars will come equipped with ABS (which you may or may not be able to switch off), and the ones that don't may be retrofitted with it at the dealer. You should be able to engage and disengage ABS at the tuning screen.
A. Pretty much... buy it at the dealer and then just enable and disable it in the tuning screen.
A. No. However there will be physical damage somewhat like the one in the Arcade Mode of GT2. The correlation between physical damage and car performance is supposed to be improved.
A. Yes. Fluctuating wind conditions will make it possible for you to run well one day and run worse another day. In this way, air can limit your top speed.
Q. How many cars will the finished version of GT3 have?
A. At the moment, there will only be ~150 families of cars in GT3. The same number of manufacturers (30) will be preserved, though, so we will just have less cars to pick from each dealer. The average number of cars to dealers is 5. (A family of car is one nameplate... there can be many trimlevels of a car family)
A. Slower cars under 63HP (or Keis/Keijidoshas in Japan) are included in GT3 and other games because many drivers in Japan and Europe own these cars. Cars like these can be surprisingly fun to drive around tight circuits with many turns. When you browse through the carlist of GT3, you should keep an open mind and be accepting of the slower cars. You shouldn't complain about the lack of variety, and if you don't like the Keis, all you have to do is not drive them. However, you'll be missing out on a few fun cars!
A. Licensing constraints prevent many makes from being in GT2, such as Ferrari. Also, the negotiation process is arduous for each model. Yamauchi says that if you'd like to see a car in GT3, you should write to its manufacturer telling them so.
A. A car won't be added to the confirmed car list unless it is confirmed by either a screenshot or official SCEI webpage/document.
A. While Acclaim has lost the license, Polyphony has not bought it yet. Even if PD does buy the license (and they SHOULD as it would be a MAJOR selling point... if someone from Sony is reading this, do it, I know what these people want!), they would have a bit of a hard time modeling these cars into GT3 at this stage in development. Modelling cars for GT3 apparently takes one week per car, and PD is pretty near done with GT3 at the moment.

Q. How many new courses will be added to the game?
A. At the moment, we know of three.
A. Yes. Again this ties in with weather effects; if weather effects are included, expect to see flying mud, changing road conditions, and the like. In a recent interview, Yamauchi has said that puddles will be in the dirt tracks as well.
A. There has been no concrete evidence of this highly expected feature as yet, but then again, there hasn't been any footage of the night tracks since the first build of GT2000.
Q. PD seems to have kept the traditional six car layout on the track. This evidence is supported by the limit of iLink players to six.
A. It's been removed, and a model of the new stadium under construction has been added.
A. The aim of GT3 is to include drag racing mode.
